Spezza isnt that good anymore.
His name/who hes played with doesnt earn him a spot in the lineup. |

Maybe if this was 2014, or 15... hell even 2016... there could be some sentimentality for Spezza.... he was a Senator FIVE YEARS AGO. |

The washed up plug that signed a 1 year deal for damn near league min to play on the 4th line... Lost his job before he won it. And that's a travesty?
The guy had 8 goals last year playing in a more positive offensive situation.
I hope you link this article when you invariably write an article in a few days about guys with 'names' being gifted roster spots while those who have earned them sit. |

I like this move
Babcock is on the hotseat….he is letting his players know there are no passengers
works your ass off or sit...I think it sends a message

If he is a liability then he is a liability that shouldnt be playing unless truly needed. Hes had plenty of opportunities to play against the Sens and in his hometown. Sheesh. |

Really, all this signals to players is 'never take a hometown discount'. It's why the Leafs got Marner at a ridiculous price tag. Don't do the Leafs any favours - they won't do them for you. |

It is however, decisions like this that may lead to Free Agents asking for more money, or neglecting to sign here at all. |

Precisely - highly unlikely with the same coach and management that you will see this happen again next year. Say all you want about Spezza being 'washed up' at 36 - he signed a 700K deal when he could have obviously gotten more elsewhere, and he did so when Toronto needs every dollar. Jumbo Joe's hometown discount at 40 cost $2M, which the Leafs could not fit under cap. I doubt any veterans will be jumping at the chance to run league minimum with the Leafs in the near future if Spezza rides a ton of pine. |

Babcock benched modano so he couldn’t reach 1,500 games. He’s a scum |

Babcock's job is to try and win hockey games not pump his boss' tires. I'm sure Dubas would agree. |

You guys are missing the point ... Spezza according to Babcock is going to play Friday when he's had more PK practice???? He's a Toronto native, signed with his hometown team to try and get a ring and facing his old team on opening night. Moreover, he's a respected veteran in the league. If the Leafs are counting on Spezza to win them anything other than an occasional face off then there are bigger concerns.
It was a Richard move by Babs to show Dubas he didn't like the signing in the first place. Could be a sign of the dysfunction behind the curtain or nothing at all, time will tell.
Either way .... GO SENS GO!!! |
