Ek, the Canes are probably the most "for real" of that bunch.

Every year through the first quarter of the season sometimes even up to the half of the season we have a handful of teams that overachieve, so let’s not get carried away just yet

The Canes are for real. The Tampa game should not have even been close--did you see the possession numbers and SOG?

Don't know yet if the Ducks are for real, but they are fun to watch, which is a big step forward.

Really? 3 games in and you're going with the "are these teams for real" angle?

You may recall that last year's Stanley Cup winner was dead last in the NHL in January right?

Mantha will score 40 + this year. He’s an absolute PF that’s ready to bust out this year. It’s a shame that the rest of the team looks horrible outside of the first line. AA will help but after that, we’re screwed until they can rid themselves of the dead weight that’s holding them back. Not sure why we wasted roster spots on Nemeth ( Ericsson 2.0 ) and Filppula but I trust in The Captain....

Of the group of teams you listed, the Canes are the one that stands out as most likely to have a great season, followed by NY. In my hockey season draft prep, many “hockey experts” picks the Canes to win their division and a few picked them to go to the Stanley cup finals. Their have a tremendous blue line, and their offence is undervalued.

Anyone interested in taking over a team in my keeper league? Draft tonight at 7:00 PM EST. Would be keeping Ovechkin, Pastrnak, Point

Didn’t Carolina go to the conference finals last year?

You know what's for real? The spelling and grammar mistakes in this blog. Holy moley. Even for Ek's standards this is bad. I had to stop reading after the Carolina synopsis.

3-0 with wins over Washington, Montreal and Tampa Bay, and Sebastian Aho doesn't even have a point yet.

Carolina had more shots in OT than Tampa Bay had after the end of the 1st period.

Last in the metro... lol

But they're giving up goals!

...I mean, we're only 3 games in and 18 teams in the league are giving up goals at a higher pace, but facts are hard.

Everything is relative. Are they for real to me is in relation to other teams in the division.

Carolina? Yes. Playoff team starting strong with a good D.

Detroit. No. Water finds it level. Will they be as strong or stronger than Tampa, Toronto, Boston, Montreal, Buffalo? No

Buffalo? They have the talent. Will they step up and continue to play well? We shall see but it is time they do so. I will say they are for real

NYR- They do have a lot of scoring but they are not a good defensive team and I am not sold they are ready to start taking games away from Lundqvist. His skills are diminishing and I would have to say in the Metro, there are at least 4 teams and possibly 5 better than them.

Sabres look real good, in every phase of game. Not sure their the best of this group, but for the sample at hand: they are definitely the most improved.

Yes Sabers are for real, Ralph Kruger is a very underrated coach, he actually got a lot out of that young Oilers squad pre McDavid era.

arguing that Carolina isn’t for real is like saying gravity is only a theory.

I don't even see Carolina as a surprise. Didn't many people think they were at least a playoff team this year.
