If it's Carrick or Mueller going back, I'd be pretty ok with it. Not a sexy name, but seems pretty solid. |

I'll help pack Miles Wood's bags if they'll take him. |

Will Butcher - P.K. Subban
Andy Greene - Damon Severson
Sami Vatanen - Mark Pysyk
Damon works better when marshalled by Green

@cu45161
Guess you missed this part of Todd's blog after a preseason game. Greene - Severson has always been a horrible tandem
"5. The Andy Greene - Damon Severson pairing had a tough night
As mentioned previously, the Devils spent a lot of the 1st period in their own zone and Greene-Severson were on the backfoot as much as anybody. They had a ~8CF% through 20 minutes, which is hard to comprehend against a watered down squad. They found their footing a little bit as the game progressed but, on aggregate, it was still a really tough night. They finished with the worst xGF percentages on the team (~35%) and were on for the lone goal against at 5v5."

I don't know much about Mark Pysyk but I can't see any mediocure player making a major difference in how this defense holds up. I mean hate to beat the drum again but isn't this all really an indictment of the system?
Also, (and I can be wrong, just asking) how is we have a lock down PK but a horrible D 5v5? I'm guessing it's because you play the PK differently. Clearly it's a different situation but WTF is going on with here?
I'm not against trying to upgrade the personnel but I'm surprised after we passed on Jake Gardiner or a free Thomas Hickey or any number of trades we could have made when people were trying to get down to roster size that this is the solution. |

I like the lines we tried in practice. I feel like we're 1 Frolik away though. Defensively responsible, experienced forward that isn't inept offensively.
I'd like to try a Coleman-Hughes-Frolik line.
Then we can try Bratt-Zajac-Palmieri, Boqvist-Zacha-Simmonds,
OR Bratt-Zacha-Palmieri and do Boqvist-Zajac-Simmonds. Frolik would give us a capable 2-way RW winger, something Bratt, Boqvist, Simmonds really aren't.
Hayden and Wood are NOT that, and Zacha is a tier above Rooney at the center position.
Hall-Hischier-Gusev ..this could be a fun line.
Boqvist-Zajac-Palmieri
Coleman-Hughes-Frolik
Bratt-Zacha-Simmonds
make the line combos whatever you want.. I can't really settle on just one. But the addition of Frolik really does stabilize everything. There's no real weak player in that lineup, just a matter of combos and Hughes and Gusev learning the NHL game. Boqvist has already looked more capable defensively than both of them. |

Or.. there's..
Hall-Hischier-Frolik
Bratt-Zacha-Gusev
Coleman-Hughes-Palmieri
Boqvist-Zajac-Simmonds
Can simply swap Palmieri and Frolik too..
I feel like putting Palmieri anywhere but a top 2 line is a waste. Until Hughes improves his game, it's almost a waste to put Palmieri on that line because there will be so much chasing. Hall-Hischier-Palmieri really is a solid group.

Saw someone say that zacha and boqvist are out Hayden Rooney are in and Carrick is replacing Mueller
So the lines they have been practicing with
Confused about zacha being out and not happy about boqvist being out too |
