A case of Mitch being good all of a sudden or Detroit being bad? Hopefully Mitch will gain some confidence today and continue to pave the way to victory.

Here it's what's funny Stan bowman hiring a European leaguer head coach who hasn't improved this team, and the team continues to lose .
Also what's funny is hawks fans who have this fairy tale belief Chicago will make the playoffs if we just give them more time and more games to figure out the simplest things , shoot , skate , pass , defend .
What else is hilarious, some fans believing that a team that struggles to score 2 goals per game will somehow open the flood gates in scoring more goals , with a defense that is inept. - Taylorst1
I’d swear I remember you picking the Blackhawks to win the Central. |

Indeed. Thanks bud. Just back from the Left Coast. Hoping to get home just in time to see the inevitable game ending doink. - Ogilthorpe2
You're (your) welcome! You know it's coming...much like Taylor predicting the Hawk demise prior to the 2015 Cup run.
Mentioning the two of you in the same sentence feels kind of dirty. Sorry man. |

First (if I can complete this in time).
Tyler noted: Well, either someone upstairs said something or Colliton realized the errors in his ways. Gone was the dump-and-chase/lose it strategy for the most part last night and the Hawks looked a lot better.
I respond: Was the “dump and chase” ever Colliton’s preferred system - or was it forced on him because the carry-and-enter schemes weren’t working - consistent inability to exit the dzone cleanly, losing space and pace in the neutral zone, no momentum entering the ozone. Forwards not being in good position to receive the first quick pass out and making the second and third quick passes to get into the the attack with speed and possession both led to the emphasis on dumping (which they had to do on most possessions) and failing at the chase.
I’m not sure many coaches would prefer a dump and chase offense to one entering the zone on the rush with speed and possession. I would guess Colliton would agree.
This is not to say that Colliton is at this point a quality NHL coach - my jury is still out on that.... - StLBravesFan
Remember for yeeeeeeears teams would line 4 up at the blueline and the Hawks would try and skate thru that configuration over and over and over and over? At best it just got knocked loose at worst an odd man the other way......... Simply said you have to take what's given and a bottom 6 more times than not, in a cap world, will attack differently than the top 6, even have a different objective.
Been reading about the dump and chase a bit and that the Hawks aren't good at it or built that way. Sure Kaner and Dcat aren't but IMO Calligula, Saad, Kubalik, Carpenter, Shaw, Kampf (mostly bottom 6) should be excellent at it. All but Carpenter and Shaw have above average speed and all are willing. ............ My point is they have players who "should" excel in that role and in fact the first 5 games the line of Kubalik-Kampf-Saad was by far their best and they dumped/recovered/caused breakdowns/threw pucks at the net. Kubalik had 10 shots 1 game.
Head up and game prep should prepare the club on what may or may not work then take what's given. |

Posted at JJ's site a few hours ago and then read your thoughts, Tyler. Guess I see the same things you guys did/do. Thought I'd share what I posted at JJ's as it fits the theme of your blog:
Yep, solid effort by the Hawks. They won the fancy battle 50.6 to 49.4 CF, FO’s 52 to 48%, hits 35-26, SOG were 31-31 and were close in blocks 14-12……. They were a hungry team and the stats show that.
Got a text from a buddy during the game, Crawford looks good. The last two games he’s looked very quick, light on his feet and efficient. He often overplays pucks when not in rythem and he’s in rythem right now.
Which brings me to Lehner. Logical at season’s start Lehner would push Crow and that’s playing out. If Crow wants the net he’s gonna have to go save for save with a 27 yr old guy playing for a contract that can throw up a .925/.930 SPG over a yr.
Here’s my point. The Hawks seem to have the better goalie in net most nights and have enough guys who can score. D is not their strong suit but with the goaltending why not open the thing up and play track meet hockey instead of focusing the system with the “current” personnel on trying to fix their own end? ………. Hell even Boqvist would do well in this system and we know Gus does.
IIRC they played at a 100 point pace after Jan 1 with last yrs personnel in the run and gun system and this yrs personnel is better……….. Today the Hawks are at the bottom of xGF% at 44.61 under the lets fix the Dzone system. Last yr they were in the middle of the pack at 48.47 with poor goaltending, worse Dman and without Shaw/Carpenter/Kubalik/Nylander.
I say let er rip and trade chances. |

Toews is 0-shootouts this year. - rpeters01
Not to let facts get in the way, according to Hockey Reference, both Toews and Kane are 50% this season.
For their careers, Toews is 47/94, 50%. Kane is 35/96 36.5%
And DCat is 2/6 33%. And Sharp was in the low 30s for his career.
Now, back to unsubstantiated opinion. |

Taylor Hall! Before the Av’s step up , don’t know what kind of assets we even have to give back to the Devils or what we have that they would even want. |

Yes I believe I did say that and on paper this team is a upgrade over last year . I also believe if we had a head coach who has a history of winning , gaining and earning a teams confidence , respect and has a system implemented that actually compliments his players skills and knows when to push certain buttons to get his players to respond.
And I said a few weeks ago I was wrong and way off with my prediction, not because I didn't believe but because I just didn't realize JC is not the right head coach for this team. |

Not a fan of NFL, but with all the Bears discussion here I thought I would watch. So let me get this straight, they pass on 3rd and 1, and run on 3rd and 7...... |

Not a good highlight to emphasize. Sort of like a college head coach praising his team for leading the nation in kickoff reception attempts. |

It's not easy in the NFL, Saints got their ass kicked by the lowly Falcons and KC lost to the Titans. |

Not much you can do when your offensive line cant give him 3 seconds to throw, your starting tight ends worst in the league and a bunch of Munchkin receivers running routes. It's ugly man |
