Rumor has it the Leafs are going to waive Jason Spezza, if I were Bowman I would claim him. His contract is only $700,000 so it's zero risk, all reward... And if he doesn't work out Bowman could waive him - but it's worth a shot.. He would be a nice add to the PP..

Not only that but if JC continues his nonsense coaching strategies the Hawks may be sellers at the trade deadline and Spezza could be worth something depending on how he plays with the Hawks.. I could see Spezza fetching at least a 2nd if he puts up .50ppg..

The thing is it's so hard to win a SC, and history has shown since the hard cap the team that has won a SC has a better chance of winning another SC as opposed to the team that lost the SC just getting back to the SC series.

Wonder what's brewing, if anything? Think AEL said that Beaudin is our best pure defender in Rockford. Unlike some on the BOD, I'd rather they not use him as a sweetener. Had we kept Joker, fine, but Mitchell's not a sure thing and we clearly still need several solid up-and-coming d men.

For what it's worth, John McDonough is here for the second straight game. There are also a lot more NHL scouts here than the usual area pro scouts. Devils, Bruins and Wild all have reps here tonight. #MANvsRFD

Why Poehling, slated in the NHL as a third line center, we are pretty strong at center (Toews, Strome, Dach, and Kampf), I would rather they try and get Primeau the goalie prospect.
- LAHawk

Why Primeau when we have Gravel?

Do not trade Beaudin or Mitchell as they represent the best we have to possibly perform one day in a top pair. We could draft a top skill or power forward in 2020.

If Spezza still had desce t offensive capability then he would be a bargain for Leafs to keep. However Leafs need to tighten up defensively. What exactly was Spezza providing and what better can he give in the TOI he would receive here. I would probably pass in favor of an Icehogs player. Why spend $700 K unnecessarily when Sikura would be better all around (believe it!). Also at some point we may want to see Kurashaev for a cup of coffee (although he dies not always play center position). And we have Nilsson if you just need a solid fill in.

Waiting to hear update on Nordgren coming over.

I am sure that Primeau is top notch but I am opposed to trading our own top prospects or draft choices for any goaltender..... since we have a good prospect in Gravel....even one year behind Primeau in development ....who can say with goaltenders which one five years from now will be the best. Your guy currently is rated higher emphasis currently. And Primeau may be the better netminder but Gravel looks pretty good

I suggest that Laakinen is the better of the duo in Rockford. Delia had a sensational season two years ago but clearly has to improve on some things. Whereas Laakinen is more polished, had success in World Championship and may be at least a descent NHL capable. I would be ok with Lehner Laakinen next season. Let Crawford play elsewhere or retire. Use his cap hit to pay DeBrincat & Strome their due increase.

I wouldn’t get too worked up about McD being at a game. It’s not like he has all that much scouting ability. If it was Stan, done, but he’s likely there for business reasons.

I wonder if they aren’t looking at Sikura - and/or if the Hawks aren’t shopping him. He seems to not have a spot in Chicago, even after playing well in Rockford.

I would not like to see it - Sikura will wind up being a very useful middle-sixer for someone.

Not as many Cups as the Pens, Hawks or Kings but the Boston Bruins have remained very competitive and in the picture for a championship for a very long time.

Excellent drafting, some very shrewd trades and superb cap management. And they survived a period with Peter Chiarelli as their GM without totally crashing and burning. Don Sweeney is one of the best GM's in the NHL, if not the best.

And Marchand. Who thought he was going to turn into a 80-90pt player? Hate him but in awe of how he turned into such a good offensive player while still being such a d-bag.

There's no room for him because we have been carrying 13-14 "bottom 6" forwards so far this year. What we could really use are a few "top 6" forwards.

Players like Sikura have little to no trade value at this point in the season. As part of a bigger trade, maybe he is a throw in. Part of his job is to be ready to go if the Hawks recall him and to keep his mouth shut if he is killing it in the AHL.

Nik Petan is a better player than than Sikura and gets jerked up and down by the Leafs every week. Gone thru waivers unclaimed twice so far. Yet teams like Detroit, LA and Ottawa never claim him.

The idea that McD at a couple Rockford games may indicate a pending trade seems a little illogical to me because McD isn't a hockey talent evaluator - he should have nothing to do with evaluating a player to be traded.

Besides - what are the Hawks looking for in a trade? They haven't even sorted through the players they have on the roster yet - why add more unfamiliarity by throwing a new player into the mix?

It's clear Chicago is at crossroads , this team as currently buildt was thought to be a upgrade and potentially compete with the hopes of 2 starting number 1 goalies and a upgraded bottom 6.

I think it's safe to say that's not happening, until they can go on some amazing run and prove everyone wrong my bet is a safe one.

Chicago has some young defensive prospects in their system , but no top 6 forward prospects .

Strome , cat , Dach boqvist Nylander are a good start for Chicago future

The current makeup of Chicago's defenseman with their contract lengths only allows Chicago at best 1 spot to offer in the next 4 years

Maatta and DE HAAN I'm not sure they end up staying in Chicago due to cap space and the easy choice to trade.

The writing is on the wall when Stan gets relieved of his duties a new general manager will come in and trade toews or Kane and buyout or move Seabrook and Keith.

Anaheim, st Louis all made coaching changes at saw immediate results

Chicago is trying to follow in the footsteps of Detroit and use that teams model , the problem with that is Detroit was able to stay competitive because it was a different salary cap system , and once the cap system currently was put in place , you can see how Detroit was special with back to back cup appearances until Chicago became the new dynasty and Detroit became irrelevant .

Boston lost to Detroit, so I guess no cup for them. Vancouver lost to Winnipeg after losing to Chicago, so must not be far along in their rebuild.

Any reason given why they are waiving him? Is he an upgrade over what we have now? Seriously asking as I have not watched him for a second this year. Is he just another older player that can't hack it anymore?
- Chunk

Spezza is being waived by the Leafs because Zach Hyman is coming off LTIR and they need the cap space. Spezza is 36 and probably finished. He a Toronto native and signed a cheap 1 year deal with them and is expendable in their eyes. If he doesn't clear waivers, no loss for them.
