It just takes a couple plugs to ruin you puck possession and turn it around. Rooney, Wood, Simmonds, Tennyson all have terrible passing % that would have them shipped to the AHL on most contenders. Gusev is no better, but the guy has a serious offensive upside. And PK, if you aren't going to produce offensively, learn how to play D!!! Gotta say, he has been a massive disappointment thus far. Just a shadow of his former self. - bikeguy99
I want to say that yes, those guys are awful at passing, but it's not only them. It's also the vets like Zajac and Coleman, Palms and Hall, Hughes and Bratt and even Nico, as well as the entirety of the defense. Not sure I notice it that much with Zacha and Boqvist but I may just not remember. Regardless, this passing thing is an issue in all areas of the ice, because players don't seem aware of what teammates on the ice are planning to do. It's completely disorganized most of the time out there and that limits the team's ability to do everything from breakouts to offensive schemes or any kind of organized backcheck.
This team has a load of talent, and it's not a coincidence that nearly everyone on the roster is underperforming. They need a coach who can give them some form of stability and plan of attack, because this team is emotionally weak to an alarming degree and they can't rely on their ability to improvise. Only once a new coach is in place can we even begin to evaluate who can succeed on the team and who may not be a good fit.
I really thought I was working this towards something more insightful than "get a new coach" but it's very late and I'm not very sober. Apologies for the rant. |

Just bang my head against the steering wheel while saying ‘I hate this (frank)ing team’ repeatedly. |

Also just want to ask: anyone know why we are the only team that cannot pass the puck cross ice in front of the net down low on a PP? This team can’t generate a back door play for poop. It’s so predictable. |

Elliot Friedman about Hall on Hockey Night in Canada during the headline section:
"I think the Devils now know its unlikely they are going to be able to get a contract done during the year. I think its up to Ray Shero who is going to have to decide what the Devils' course of action here is going to be, because it think its very unlikely he agrees to sign with them during the year."
Shero's gotta trade him at this point, the sooner the better honestly. |

We need to get 1 major asset for Hall wether it be a non lottery protected first or a top prospect. Can not settle for a pile of depth. |

If he feels he won’t resign and doesn’t move him then he’s no better than all the times Lou held out and never moved assets before he felt Nj could do a defying run to the playoffs, which set the team back for prospect depth, depth for trades, for rebuild, etc. |

Unfortunate for Devs. But have to maximize his value. It hurts teams know he won't sign. |

I know Ek is not to be taken too seriously, but I would love to see Shero try to swing Hall to the Avs for Byram. Might be wishful thinking, but they might be eager to really push themselves over the top without losing a roster player. |

The thing is for me, that the Avs have a ton of money on LT/IR right now and need to re-sign guys for next year. I'm assuming that teams who want to trade for Hall are going to get the opportunity to negotiate a contract before hand. Are they going to be able to work him into their team money wise. Also, Zadorov just got injured so are they going to trade a defenseman to get Hall? I'm not sure it lines up properly. |

Looks like 4.25 million is coming off for Orpik and Barrie contacts, but they do have a few RFAs that'll need some raises like you said. You figure ~1 million more for the roster player he replaces and cap that's going up by quite a bit (I think), it feels like it could be doable. |

Oh crap Girard is getting a 4.2 million raise off his ELC. Maybe the only trade to be made there would then involve Girard and Jost like someone else suggested on Eklund's post. |

I would love for it to happen, but the Avs would have to be out of their minds to trade one of the best defense prospects in the league for a player they have no control over after the season. |

out of pure ignorance- do we even know just how good Byram will be at the NHL level? There's that. He's totally unproven. A level of risk there, just like a level of risk with Hall's health and re-signing him. With that said.. I'd take Byram. The only potential future dmen we have is Smith Severson and Butcher.. maybe Vatanen. Byram + a ROCK SOLID dman wold make a decent top 6 in a few years. |

Gotta wonder if Colorado could even make that happen. They have a good bit of cap tied up in really good talent and more important contracts coming like Jost and Makar over the next 2 years. |

Byram is about as sure a thing as prospects come. Sure there’s a chance he doesn’t become what he should, but it seems like that is a very slim chance. |
