Greiss was by far the best player yesterday.

Barry Trotz said Casey Cizikas and Cal Clutterbuck both off for maintenance today. Expects both to practice on Tuesday (Isles are off on Monday). However, adds that if Cizikas needs some extra time off, Leo Komarov might have to fill in at center.

Bardreau was sent down yesterday, too, so that would be two center spots to fill if Cizikas can't go. I imagine they'd just call Bardreau back up in that case. If Cizikas can go, does Komarov still play center in the open spot? Does Brassard go back there?

I would guess Bailey as 3rd line center and Komarov as the 4th line center, if Cizikas can’t play.

Gotta say Bailey didn't look half bad at center yesterday. He seemed to have a little extra jump when he was moved over.

I was not against trying Bailey at center again before Nelson was given 2C.Bailey loves to pass and seems like a good fit for center.

Is he going to backcheck and play in the slot area defensively ??? Will he pull an Ebbs, and block a shot with his chest, while on his knees ????πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”

It's an interesting question. Many were probably shocked Eberle did it. Bailey as center offensively would seem to be a fit.

More #Isles Barry Trotz on Oliver Wahlstrom (sent to AHL Bridgeport yesterday): "... At every level he’s been a talent, he’s been the biggest, strongest sort of the most talented guy. Well, no one has really taught him the game for the most part."

Not for nothing, but when has Bridgeport or any islander affiliate ever looked that good on paper? They have legit talent up and down that line up, and that without Sorokin and Wilde..

I'd like to see them with their full roster for awhile, they've had all sorts of crap going on this year between call-ups, injuries, etc...

I've pretty much moved on from Bellows though. I fully believe he is going to be a bust, as far as being a top-six player. Maybe he can be a useful checker but his offense is not even close to as-advertised.

Bellows to me doesn't really have a spot in this organization as Wahlstrom took it. I can see them trading Bellows......hes got the last name so he could be intriguing.

I don't think his name means anything when he's advertised as a goal scorer and has only 13 goals and 22pts through his first 88 pro games

He's 21 so I wont call him a bust by any means. Statistically Ho Sang wasn't half bad and no one wants him. Bellows is all upside with the pedigree......there'd be interest in my opinion.

Long line of Garth drafting players that cannot skate.

We still bashing Garth on his drafts on these boards.. really? He only drafts guys that can't skate? Long list of guys? yeah ... you know like Barzal, Beau, Brock, Toews, Ho Sang... I mean all those guys are horrific skaters.

"CAREER NOTES: Set a Team USA record at the 2017 U20 World Junior Championships with nine goals in seven games, breaking Jeremy Roenick's previous benchmark of eight goals during the 1991 tournament... Helped Team USA to a Bronze Medal and was named to the WJC All-Star Team... Selected as a top three player on the team... Spent last season in the Western Hockey League (WHL) and ranked second on the Portland Winterhawks in goals (41), third in points (74) and fourth in assists (33)... Led Team USA to a Gold Medal at the 2016 U20 World Junior Championships... Named the United States Hockey League's (USHL) Rookie of the Year in 2014-15 after ranking fifth in the league with 33 goals... Led the Sioux Falls Stampede that season in goals and points (52), and added 12 points (9g, 3a) in 12 playoff games, helping to capture the 2015 Clark Cup Championship... Named to the USHL Third All-Star Team and All-Rookie Team."

This was why Bellows was drafted by the Isles. To assume he is a bust b/c he was not scoring a ton of goals last year is foolish. To say that Wahlstrom has taken his spot is also foolish. He was told last year he has to work on becoming a better 2 way player. ... Let's see how he does this year before we start calling the kid a "bust". He is a sniper and when he figures out how to play 2 way hockey he will be an asset on this or any NHL team.

Do you really want to be defending Garth? Reinhart was another 1st round pick that could not skate. Let's not pretend it's only been one player. I hope Bellows still work out but so far it's not looking great.

Ses the draft no matter how much players are scouted is still a crap shoot after the top 2 or 3 picks. Look at guys that are picked 18th or whatever that turn into stars that years later people say how could teams pass on that guy. All teams have hits and misses

This is true Upstate but in terms of Garth, I'm not sure how much homework was done and Isles seem to have more top picks misses than most. Silly question is it really very difficult for players to improve their skating? I think players have to take responsibility as well. What have players like MDC and Bellows done in the offseason to improve their skating? Have they hired skating coaches and worked on it during the offseason?
