This straight from the Tampa Blog. I might have to stop coming to this site. Everyone is turning into stat nerds who don't watch games. Rangers have the same amount of points as the Lightning.

"The Blueshirts are dreadful in most statistical categories. They rank last in the NHL in Expected Goals For Percentage (xGF%), 29th in High-Danger Scoring Chances, and are the worst team in the NHL at controlling shot attempts. Yikes! The Rangers will try to ride out the good times as long as possible, but sooner or later, the poor underlying numbers will quell their postseason hopes."

"The Rangers are a hot mess. The rest of the Metropolitan Division has already begun to create separation between the Rangers and their fellow cellar-dwellers, New Jersey and Columbus. Perhaps the most concerning aspect for the Rangers is that they’re in danger of regression with their 5v5 shooting percentage, which sits at 9.32 right now. There is a good chance that shooting percentage sinks to somewhere in the 8s or lower, and if it does, the Rangers’ mediocre goaltending and inability to manage the puck are going to present them with problems. With several days’ rest, Tampa Bay can exact retribution. The Lightning have agency to make quick work of the Rangers."

Sidney Crosby is considering sports hernia surgery which would keep him out another 4-6 weeks. This time would also allow the undisclosed injury that kept him out of last nights game to presumably heal. He has been battling the hernia since training camp...

We aren't supposed to be good this year, so this isnt news if they want to go off fancy stats. All I care about is the young guys getting better. In 2 years this will be a different conversation

Cool to see both Hughes and Kakko starting to play great after slow starts.

They're making the playoffs, whether that is a good thing or not is the question.

I can't see how it would be a bad thing, unless they trade some youth or assets to help make it happen

That's the thing though, according to these fancy stat nerds we are dead last in the league and have no chance to win any games. I just checked the standings, we are 3 points out of a playoff spot and have the same amount of points as Tampa. He should be ripping his own team then

I gotta say, I've been super annoyed at Buchnevich but he has 14 points through 16 games. But he could be even better.

Trouba is starting to get me slightly worried. He started off so well then took a nose dive offensively.

The simple fact that the Rangers are playing 7 (yes I know, except Lias) 21 yr olds over 12 minutes a night should tell you something. This team will have its ups and downs but will continue to get better.

Because one could argue that them missing and having a shot at a high draft pick is better than a possible first round exit.
