Anything under 80 points for the Wings would be a disappointment, and under 70 would be a huge step back for the team, especially Larkin, Mantha, AA, Bert, and Hronek. That would mean basically no improvement and growth since last season, and that is unacceptable.

I agree. Anything under 70 points would be a regression.

I can completely understand your frustration. Just keep in mind that, while the forwards are progressing, goaltending and defense are overall worse right now. It’s all about development. You can’t win many games with this setup.

I disagree it would mean “no growth”. The team isn’t getting the kind of net play they would need to be in that 80 point realm. Unfortunately, a worse finish could bring in a better player at the draft. It’s unpleasant for sure

They need to finish at the bottom of the league and get the best chance at the #1 pick or at worst a top 4 pick period. That "step backwards or regression" as those two put it would be a step forward at the draft and they badly need it.

This team isn't even close to being ready to compete for the playoffs let alone a cup. They are still missing top 6 forwards, top 4 (more like top 2) defensemen and a goalie. They still need some game changers added to the core. Sucking badly this season could help get one of those guys (Lafreniere or Byfield) at the draft.

Just enjoy the growth from the young players even if the teams record blows for now and look forward to drafting high.

Mantha = 40 +
Larkin = 30 / 80 total
Bert = 70 total. He could score 30 but Blashill likes to tinker with lines too much.
AA = 25 goals / 60 pts. That start hurts him and spending the first 15 or so games with nobody didn’t help his cause. I’ve never understood how we fail to put him with Larkin on a consistent basis to maximize his potential.

All and all, I hope they show progress in their play and lose as many close games as possible. They are a couple of players away from being legitimate again but without a goalie and a few D men, it won’t happen.

I think this group would be better with a change of coach. They know what to do but have no trust in the coach - time for a change!

At some point, young players need to learn how to win. With the exception of in goal (which can be huge), the Wings have more talent than LV, and should be able to match their record. If not, then maybe a new coach is in order.
