We all would’ve love the 2 points but I can’t be too unhappy with a point and keeping one the league’s best offenses to 1 goal. Go Flyers! |

Bill, I'm not a fan of Hayes and Vorachek on the same line together as they both seem like play makers rather than finishers, creating space and opportunities for their linemates. What are your thoughts on Hayes' play and usage to date?
Another great game for Hart. Got the Flyers a point but couldn't steal a 2nd against 2 good shooters. Seems like he's got his mojo back. |

Sandström is out with a lower body injury for another week or so. Ustimenko is doing OK for a 20 y/o with no previous pro experience coming over from Russia. |

Hart steals a point. - daryl stanley
I wouldn’t call it that. He was great but the Flyers had a lot of pushback in this game. Great game to watch |

I stumbled in a ticket last night, first game of the season for me. Some thoughts:
- Myers and Sanheim were outstanding. I lost count of how many times those guys stepped up on players physically and either rode the player off the puck or were able to get in the way of a shot.
- Going along with this, there was good support for puck retrievals. The old, "First guy takes the body, second guy takes the puck" was pretty true last night. Most cohesive team defense I saw in a long time.
- Even with that, Washington is a forechecking pressure machine. While I thought Carolina was a pressure team, Washington gives you absolutely no time. In the first, the Flyers had trouble dealing with this and had nothing through the neutral zone. They adjusted well after that.
- The second and third periods, minus the last 2 minutes of the 3rd, the Flyers downright took it to the Caps. They kept coming in waves and, while they weren't always getting great chances, they were dominating the Caps in extended offensive shifts that had the Caps gassed.
- Voracek sighting!
- The Flyers puck possession it OT was great, but man they got lucky that OV had been out there for 2+ minutes because Giroux was able to (legally) almost catch him obstruct him from behind. Were OV fresher...
- Ghost didn't have a bad game, but his confidence looks shot and he's pressing. He passed up a few really good shots, he flubbed a few that he attempted (where's that one-timer!?), and while his breakouts were fine, he just looks different. I'm not saying trade him or play Hagg for him, but he could probably use a game off to readjust.
- Carter Hart. That guy was absolutely phenomenal last night; the kind of guy we're hoping to see on a regular basis for the next decade. With goaltending like that, he gives them a good chance to win against anybody.
While I would have liked to get two points, that was a very entertaining game and I walked out a loss feeling good about the team. Had this been a playoff game, OT would be a 50/50 shot. They proved they can play with anyone, and after the past few seasons, I'll take the one point gladly. |

They completely dominated the OT period because they caught the Caps out tired for 3 mins. I was sure Coots had buried that slapper.. He's become money in the SO.
2 games to go before we hit the 20 game mark I said I would wait for before making any assessments on the club. So far, I've liked what I've seen. Special teams better, goaltending stabilized, D much improved (hence lower GAA). Team looks solid.
When we're debating about how Hayes needs to contribute more points to justify salary even though we have a 10-5-3 start (epic compared to recent starts) you know it's been a good stretch. |

Thanks for sharing. I missed the first two periods, but happy I caught the 3rd and ot... very exciting
Carter hart was phenomenal for the segment of the game I saw. Again, I keep saying with another tender in from years past, we lose 4 1. He's just not easy for other teams to beat when he's on. He's still a second year guy but when he becomes consistent look out.
Re the ov breakaway, I agree we were lucky, but also, I think wash was lucky. We made our own luck but playing keep away for 3 mins and exhausting the caps. We really should have scored to end it, and that was as dominant an ot possession wise as I've seen from the team.

I saw a different Gostisbehere. Again, I saw progress in getting back to where he was. He battled hard in the corners, he cut some pucks in the neutral zone. The move to split the defense and go right up the middle for a prime scoring chance was vintage Gostisbehere. No reason at all to sit him a game. |

Someone I haven’t seen mentioned yet who played well was Provorov.
That final four minutes in the 3rd, Hart did some real bacon-saving. Also, his play in the first stands out as pretty spectacular, otherwise it wouldn’t have been much of a game.
If the Flyers were to get 2 points, the OT was the best chance. |

Yeah. The flyers seem to do pretty well in the 3 on 3. I normally have more confidence in them getting a win there than in the so, but they haven't been bad at that either lately.

Call me crazy, but that felt like a playoff game last night! I was on the edge of my couch without blinking.
You compare last night's game to a game from last season.
We let in a goal and are without a shot for most of the 1st and came back out in the 2nd with some fire. If this was last year, we likely turtle and let the caps pour more goals on us. Same applies to our PK; if we gave that many PPs to the Caps we were at least failing on 3 of them.
It's fantastic to see how this team is playing under AV (so far) and it was said many, many times. You typically don't know what kind of team you have under AV until the 20 game mark. We literally are nearing 20 games, but I think we are close to seeing what this team is consistently night in and night out.
The sky was falling (at least here) entering this stretch of games (CAR, MTL, TOR, BOS, WSH) and we bounced back marvelously. |

He made a move towards the end of the first to sidestep a defender and, if he makes any mistake, it's a breakaway the other way, so I'll admit he had to have some confidence to do that. The difference was that, 2 years ago, he's hammering a shot on goal or threading a pass to someone that the defender has vacated to step up on Ghost. Instead, it was a weak shot that I believed was deflected away. And yes, he did step up on some pucks aggressively in both the NZ and DZ.
But it just seems like something's off when he is getting ready to shoot. Like he's not sure of himself right now. Like I said, he didn't play BAD, he just seems unsure of himself when he's presented with a shot. |

Yes. He's dominant. Carter is good at SOs, and he didn't even move on that five hole shot.. |

So based on one shot that he didn't get a lot on, you think he should sit. Here is a tell tale clue. The coach had Gostisbehere out there on a regular shift, late in the 3rd period of a 1-1 tie against the top team in the league. Does that point to a player that needs to sit a game?

My Gf is a casual NHL fan outside of the Flyers, but when Oshie went and scored I was pretty impressed when she asked, "Isn't that the guy who won gold for USA"
She didn't get the medal right though |

He certainly doesn't seem to be uncorking that big shot as much as he used to. I wonder if they've simply wanted him to play a more controlled game. I've said all along it appears to me that it's a confidence thing. |

haha that's hilarious. You're finally making inroads on brainwashing her. I've trained my 5 yr old daughter to call all teams other than the Flyers "the bad guys" |

The PK did a remarkable job on the Caps. PK improvement this season has been important.
