So when does PD stop accumulating draft picks? Isn't Pageau just the sort of character vet he should hang on to for the longer term? Once Hainsey, Ryan, Boro, and Andy are gone where does that come from? And Pageau can flat out play.

A guy like Pageau can play up and down the lineup... Very useful player...

Pag stock has never been higher. Great for a trade. Awful for a resigning. How many guys resign in their prime years to reasonable deals? I’ll be happy if it happens, but…

This team is not going to be competitive for 2-4 more years. Pag will not be the player that he is today, and the current prospect group will be close to their prime with other young guys developing into quality players. Vets will not be as required as they are now. You can also sign guys via free agency to fill holes.

This team has a surplus of 2nd and 3rd line centres coming down the pike. No huge need to have Pag around. Get a great package for him at the deadline or sooner.

I agree, although it really pains me to say it. I would also be wary that Dorion might overpay to keep the Ottawa native.

Hopefully one or both of Brown and Norris are on the big club next year, leaving Pageau redundant.

Although, I think it also depends on the return they get for him. If his numbers start to return to the mean, and the return is less than ideal, it may better to keep him. (I believe even then it would be a decent return)

Exactly.
We all love the guy but it's going to be the Zack Smith thing all over again. Career year in his contract year - home grown guy over pay two years later can't wait to move him.

Trade him.
