Some were mad. Some weren't surprised by the move. Some were both.

Boqvist had a strong showing in his 6 games. He registered his 1st career NHL goal, averaged 14:27 of ice time and most importantly proved he could hang in the NHL.

The reality is that he will be back. Will it be this year? I would say there's a strong chance that's the case.

Loved Boq coming up & proving me wrong too. He was good, but had his lapses, like all young players. I look forward to his return. More time in Rock will be all the more better as he develops.

Like having Murphy back, but these injuries do have me worried. Time to take down Trashville.

The comment that Rinne made after the last game, "easiest shutout of my career", should be enough incentive for our guys.
I hope that they are in Peca's face all night.

Like Tyler, I was surprised at how ready Boqvist looked in his six games here. I think that while some more time in the “A” will help him, he was caught up in a numbers game here - and, looking at Tyler’s proposed seven next season, the same problem exists: who sits every night?

If Boqvist and Mitchell are both here, they have to play. Murphy, deHaan and Maatta will be in most nights, as will Keith (he’ll still probably be one of the best blue liners here).

So - Seabrook in the press box most night?

Boqvist going back to Rockford isn't the end of the world. He'll have the opportunity to play 20+ minutes per night. I like the way the Hawks are exposing their young defensemen to the NHL. First Gilbert for a few games, then Boqvist. This gives the players the opportunity to experience the game at the NHL speed and skill level. Maybe Carlsson gets the next callup, then Mitchell if he has the chance near the end of the season.

Regarding the NSH game, hopefully the Hawks paste Rinne's comments on the locker room bulletin board and come out on fire against him Saturday.

Should we be hoping that Gus plays great (offensively, because we know playing great defensively is not a possibility)? And if he does is he traded before the TDL for a high draft pick or an "A" level prospect OR if they are playing well and he is clicking offensively do they keep him for a playoff run.

Maybe a best case scenario. Gus plays great and the Hawks are in playoff contention. The Hawks are not fooled into thinking they are serious Cup contenders this year. They move Gus at or before the TDL for a very good return. They bring up Boqvist and still make the playoffs.

Rinne can stop “everything on net” if you don’t make him move or take his eyes away - and then the puck turns over.

Dump ins on net - Rinne is very good with the puck - if he gets it, Nashville will take control of it.

Sounds crazy right? I’m thinking (probably foolishly) that at some point pride will dictate that he steps down...especially if he’s looking at spending most of the season as a healthy scratch. This is the last year that his salary exceeds his cap hit. Just a gut feeling that he will slide into a cushy front office job after this season. He’ll get his money (most of it anyway), just not as a player.

Stan can always flip one of Murphy, de Haan or Maatta for an asset this summer. There's always a market for veteran defensemen who aren't terrible. Sometimes even for ones that are terrible (looking at you Timonen & Rundblad).

Yep. Crazy. Seabs still thinks he is worthy of a top 4 spot on the Hawks or any team. He is playing 18 minutes per night, more or less supporting his contention. Not walking away from $6.875mil for the next 4 years. A FO favorite. I could see him being traded if the Hawks eat a good part of his salary, but their is that NMC issue. He could waive his NMC to the right team, with the right coach, in the right situation. He could be traded to a team like Ottawa in the summer, with the understanding they would buy him out. Then he could resign with another team for way less money. Hawks could buy him out if Cap goes way up, but kind of doubt it.

I think the pride thing will show up more in a willingness to waive his nmc. $20M is a lot of coin. Of course, he's made $71M so far


Edit - Keith has made $69M so far, and only has about $7.5M left on his deal. Seabs will make about $14M more in his career than Keith.

I was pleasantly surprised at Boqvist's work without the puck while he was with the Hawks. Last year I saw 15 or 20 Knights games on TV and once live and his defensive play was a work in progress. With the puck he's dynamic, even in the NHL. Wait until he gains confidence and isn't worried about overplaying the puck.
