Habs need a top pairing left shot defenceman or a sniping winger. Why would they have any interest when there is already a logjam at center?

I've hoped the Pens would go after him for a while, but a first and a prospect? No thank you. |

He's also a league worst -22 ....which is significantly worse than the second and third worst : Filppula and Burns at -15 and -14 respectively. |

If you're evaluating a player based on plus/minus you've already lost the argument. |

That's like using any kind of adjusted Corsi number....meaningless. |

+ One 30 goal season
+ Lots of speed
- Not a very good defensive player
- Attitude issues in the past
- RFA who will probably want 6+ million a season
1st and a prospect? A C or maybe D type prospect....hard maybe. A or B prospect....hard NO.

I think a 2nd + mid-level prospect is fair. |

Fine, he has a Corsi of 45.6% which is terrible... obviously affected by how bad Detroit is, but when compared to his teammates he's far from the top of the team. His shot % is below his career average and his PDO is at 85 so he might be getting bad puck luck but he's getting about 60% in offensive zone starts.
Still, wichever way you look at it, he's a center and with Suziki, Kotkaniemi et Poehling already pushing Domi, Danault and Thompson, we don't need him - especially not for a first and a prospect |

I’d offer up Heinen plus a second round pick if that’s all they want. A first with an extension. He can learn to play better defensively. His numbers are poor because he plays on a garbage team right now.
I think the Oilers should make a play for him. He’d fit in there pretty nicely.
Lots of potential there. Just have to unlock it.

I don't personally believe Athanasiou is that high of an impact player to demand that kind of cost, but would be a nice addition to a team that wants to strengthen their bottom six.
Then you have to factor in way to many teams have to juggle around the cap to even fit 3m in, not to mention Detroit is in no place to take back a large chunk of money.
Best fit...maybe Edmonton, maybe involving Jesse Pu...with some creative juggling. |

AA plays all forward positions. It’d be worth it for any team to make a play for him. |

Pens should offer up Addison, Johnson and a first round pick for AA. That’s well worth it for them. |

Basically guaranteed AA plays in the Oilers top six. Him and McDavid would be ridiculous. Or AA and Nuge would be a boost.

Actually if you ever bothered to watch some Wings games, you would know that he's not playing center and aside from a 15 to 20 game stint last season at center. He's playing wing mostly with Filppula as the 2nd line center...a guy who was never a good 2nd line center in his prime.
AA was injured in pre-season and missed the first 2 games of the season. Took him a while to get back on track but now he is heating up despite still having Filppula as his center (addition of Fabbri to the line helped a bit).
Personally i would rather keep AA since he can create his own offense if players can actually pass the puck on his stick and not in his skates or behind him in full stride. This is a guy that scored 30 goals playing mostly with Luke Glendening last year...think about that.
Wings are already offensively challenged as it is. Trading one of their top 4 forward point producers for a late 2nd round pick and some crappy prospect would be stupidity. |

Detroit is much better off keeping him. Yes he's had a slow start (partly due to injury). 30-goal scorers don't grow on trees. He's 25 so he's just now hitting his prime. He's heating up now and can still have a very good season ahead of him. He has the hands to match his explosive speed. The Wings need to keep him. Even if they were to trade him they'd be wise to be patient until his value goes up (because it definitely will). |
