Thanks for the blog Todd. I'm glad to hear Brodie is on the mend. With Valimaki placed on LTIR does that rule him out for any chance of being back this season?

Nope, they weren't expecting him back until I think February at the earliest anyways...

Gets them some really convoluted cap relief along the way though...

I think he has to be out at least 24 days or 10 games.

Why not just leave Valimaki on LTIR until he's ready to start making a return? I don't get why they keep flipping him back and forth when we need a little extra space

I don’t think they had put him on it until yesterday. Not sure though.

Hmm..I thought I remembered them doing it at least once already when we had some guys get injured. Thought maybe there was some odd cap-related reasons for us to keep flipping him back and forth (seems odd that they wouldn't have just placed him on LTIR the instant they were allowed)

A team can’t gain cap space cumulatively while they have players on LTIR. They can use up to the amount they are under the cap with LTIR (meaning they can go over the cap by that amount)but they don’t gain any $$$ through the the season to add a player at the deadline or before.
I don’t think I explained that very well but hopefully you get the gist of it.

Man we have had a real sh!t schedule so far this year doesn’t look to be getting any better in the near future. No excuses though. Time to get rollin! If I have one issue with BT it is his inability to get clutch trades done. If you want a guy go out and get him don’t fiddle f()ck around till it’s too late. He’s done a good job besides this though.

GFG!

Wow last year we had McJohnny this year he looks like McOrdinary. Maybe the Flames should plan their dad’s trip sooner than later.

Being this tight to the cap, has made it hard to bring up players to provide that spark. We need something to give.

I don't remember Johnny's first 20 games last year, but I just saw that the team has the exact same number of points through the first 20 games (23 points). This team seams to need a "turning point" every year to get them to pull their heads out of their asses.

After those first 20 games or so the Flames started playing 60 minutes of hockey every night (until the (frank)ing playoffs started ) . If they can start doing that again I see no reason for them not to be able to finish first in the west again.

Brodie's episode is one of those things that can help galvonize a team. Something has been missing, hopefully that provides the spark they need.

Actually I think the team as a whole didn’t play that bad. A few break downs but not bad. It has been said a few to many times this year but this is a game you can’t build off of
