This is what happens when a team consistently passes instead of shooting while in prime scoring areas.

Bad loss, but this team may finally be better than the sum of it's parts for the 1st time in a while.

Curious to see where Fletcher improves the tram when he eventually does this year.

I'd maybe take a flyer on an under achieving wing.

Anybody out there that needs a change of scenery?

Hmm... do you mean Wing (as in Det Red) or wing?

I really hate the play where the defenseman carries the puck up ice through the neutral zone and then turns around and passes back into our own end.

That happened a couple of times in the last few minutes of the game. Controlled entries are great but any good team is going to have to be able to get pucks in deep and then battle for them.

You mean the slingshot play that is used by just about every team in the league on the power play?

As per NHL.com the Flyers are currently fifth overall in shots per game..
Shooting isn't the problem for them .

Core stat, assists - goals - +/- , shows that right now Giroux, Coots, Jake and JVR are all producing at a substantially less than a PPG clip.

We need two or three of those players to get closer to where they normally are. Im not concerned with Giroux as by the end of the season I believe he will be near a PPG player like he often is. I am not concerned with Coots because his line is driving play and I think the points will come for him.

JVR and Jake have me worried and it wouldnt surprise me to see one of them moved at some point.

Tough loss last night but it's tough when your two top paid offensive players, Giroux and Voracek are unavailable to play.

I disagree with how those shooting stats are presented. I would argue that regardless of some games that inflate the stat, it is actually low based on game situation. You can’t possibly think 27 total shots were okay last night, given the power plays and being down a goal in the third.

I thought giroux’s pregame interview against Washington was interesting. It went something like this

Commentator “it’s early in the season but you guys have been playing good hockey doing the right things, etc, etc

Giroux “It is early.....blah blah etc.”.

Sooo Is this run of decent play smoke and mirrors or something Claude? Why would your Captain answer like that if you don’t fully believe in the team and what they’ve been able to do? “It is early”.

I hate that response

It’s just a fact. It is freaking early in a freaking long season. Truth.

I agree with you on last nights game. There was no push back from the Flyers once Ottawa raised their level of play. There were a few exceptions but the Flyers top players Giroux and Voracek were bad last night. Hayes was brutally bad and has been bad for a while. Giroux and Voracek are having bad seasons. They need to get it together.

It's also a fact that Giroux has been bad this season. That it's early is a BS excuse from him.

You can disagree with them all you want but the facts are that as per NHL.com the Flyers are averaging 33.9 shots per game. I just dont find shot qty to be the problem for the team.

Giroux, Coots (yes i know his line is driving play so he is beyond reproach), Jake all having 13 points in 19 games is bad.
JVR having 9 points in 19 games is worse.

LIke i said last night the best teams in the league, of which the Flyers are not yet, lose games and the world doesnt end. The Flyers have now effectively lost 2 in a row, lose again tonight against a much better team and then its time to worry more.

When the Flyers become one of the best teams in the league, then I'll give them a pass and say that hey, sometimes games like this happen. With the team's history of slow starts, inconsistent play and long losing streaks, they don't get a pass for not elevating their game last night against an inferior team. The slow start against Washington, unprepared for the pace of play and playing down to an opponent last night are all too familiar.

Josh ho sang? No afvocating for this but he fits your description.

Does jake have a nmc? As mentioned before we'd have to retain salary in any trade involving him, but it might be considered unless he really gets I going.

He might of been referring to his own slow start....now Giroux does do enough other things to offset the down turn in offence, but guys like Vorecek and Ghost need to be producing because they both can be liabilities defensively...so their poor play really stands out.

Im not saying they get a pass for anything.
Im saying teams lose games over an 82 game schedule.
2 loses to me is a time to lose our minds, lose tonight and then you have more of a streak or pattern setting in and all the good of the winning streak starts to go away.

Without naming any more names, I’ll just say it this way. There are skaters On the team (forwards AND defenseman) that are better shooters. Those guys need to double down. Our many playmaker, pass-first guys need to consider that sometimes they in fact have the best shot available. It’s a team and the offense needs to come together. Play to their strengths but push themselves just a tad.

On the coaching, I’m not a fan of the blender treatment so early in a game with new lines already. And I thought Giroux can set up on the RHB on the PP at least 50% of the time? Where was that last night?

I’m trying to understand. I started out with the Flyer’s goals scored per game stat of 2.89. You agree it’s low? Are you of the opinion that this in low based on just a few players underperforming? Bad puck luck? What?

Yeah. I got that. It's why I said we'd have to retain salary but if he's got an actual. Nmc it would further complicate matters.
