that's pretty much it.. If/when Babcock gets fired and they still struggle to win games, then all the fingers will be pointed at Dubas. - PatC80
so....
if our reading between the lines is even just partially accurate/correct regarding Dubas...
and he's indeed concerned about the team not getting back on track....
how much confidence does he have in the roster he assembled? |

2019 Drouin wasn't soft. He was amazing.
Until he got hurt. - Scabeh
he was amazing, but you can be amazing and soft. he didnt back down this year from challenges or during his time in the corners, but he put more conviction in his plays this year and more heart. being soft isnt bad when you are that type of player, no? |

So who’s staying up to watch the game tonight?
Future Santo will not be happy to be up at 1AM after a leafs loss - Santo_44
oh come on... you know as a Leaf fan... that there has been much worse in the fairly recent history... and we are all well versed in train wrecks...
and I would think there's a pretty good chance this thing is over before the end of the first period tonight.

yeah, that's the odd part when the best ~15 y/o meet. There's always a Hedman and a Marner out there. One being 10 inch taller and looking 10 years older! - 21peter

2) coach/dubas. |

I think he's confident in the team.. It's just human nature though.. We always look for someone to blame.. If/when Babs is let go, Dubas just happens to be the next person that people will put this on. |

Honestly I could motivate myself to stay up until 1am to watch the Leafs with really bad teams last 10+ years.
Last 4-5 games I just couldn't do it.

that first play is pretty funny, Marleau sends the puck up a couple feet when Nylander is not looking and by the time he realizes it the puck slides by him.
a terrible pass helps turn it over - senstroll
nylander is the offensively loaded version of marincin.
very good at puck possession in the netural and o-zones.
lost in the d-zone. |

that's correct for sure...
problem is the scapegoats aren't in that order and neither are the excuses.
one thing is for sure... any rift that may exist in the room, will "come out in the light" in the next few weeks - if they do fire Babcock or they continue to lose with Babcock....
in my opinion (I know old guy who knows nothing ) Dubas has to do something to shake things up... even if he does get Shanahan to can Babcock. The easiest next step is moving Barrie for some stable inexpensive vet at a minimum. But if he has some "balls"...he'll do more - because that would signal he acknowledges the roster construction is flawed currently and it also would signal to the players that there is a penalty to paid for playing like s__t.
sitting and staring at Excel all day ain't gonna help. |

But if you don’t watch the 3rd you’ll miss all the garbage time stat padding from Matthews and nylander.
Roger tells me Auston got 4 assists against the hawks last week.

100% agreed.
The last time I felt like this was when the signed Jason Blake....
come to think of it... Nylander is just like Blake. |

some good points here
https://theathletic.com/1...ce/?source=shared-article
When you actually break down the video, the D are a problem, but not in the way you think.
there has to be a big coaching element resulting in the huge drop in goals/xgf
There is no way a team this talented should be losing the way they are - senstroll
so hakstool is the problem??
is it simple as canning the assistant and bringing someone else in? seems like the least disruptive mid-season move that can have some instant gratification.
or fire the guy that thought hakstool would be good? |

exactly... isn't that what you guys do to try and defend Nylander's apparent disinterest? just cause there isn't a stat for "weak ass fly-bys" and "change quick to avoid back-check" and "zone entry leads instantly to turnover"... doesn't mean that we can't all see them...
Dubas can't have it both ways... I don't want to put Keefe in there right now... because its a s__t-show.... while I can appreciate he doesn't want to do that - what is it saying about his confidence in the roster he created? |

Why isn't Brendan Shanahan getting any of the blame?
I could be wrong here with the timelines, so I apologize in advance if I am, but:
Didn't he hire Mike Babcock?
Didn't he hire Lou Lamoriello as a GM in 2015 only to remove him of his GM duties in 2018 to promote Kyle Dubas as the new GM and letting Mark Hunter walk?
If so, shouldn't Brendan Shanahan get all of the blame for hiring the "wrong" people for the job?

idk. who hires assistant coaches.
does the gm or head coach have more say?
i prefer to hire my own assistant managers, and not have my boss do it for me. |
