If it's a big money deal that has to go, it's one of Tavares, Matthews, or Marner. While it is opinion, I don't feel Nylanders is valid here, because even without his, you still have 3 contracts over 10 million a year. And I'm pretty sure no other team in the league can say that.
So which of the three is it that goes? We can't fault dubas for not making a choice we wouldn't make ourselves. Because had he made that choice, you are very representative of the crowd that would have blasted him and said it's his fault for trading one of the big 3.
I pick Marner personally... - joel878
Between Marner, Tavares and Matthews.. Yes, I think you trade Marner first.. If you absolutely had to trade someone.. I think you always keep the center and trade the winger first

I think there was a general consensus that if the choice was marner at 10.5 vs 4 1sts, 4 1sts would win out.
Marner at 10.9 should be the one.
Or wait 2-3 years for those contracts to be better value

Pretty much everyone was saying take the 4 1sts. You're crazy not to, especially when you consider almost any team that could afford that would be ones that have the space and therefore probably aren't all that good. |

Agreed.
Dubas should have listened to the outsiders on how to handle the contract negotiations..

Well if the argument is that he's (frank)ing up the ability to win now with those contracts, he can't hold on to them for a few years can he. Pick a lane. |

If Marner is to believed it was never an option dubas had, he wasn't interested in signing anywhere else.
That's a whole new argument. None of those 4 firsts may turn out to be as good as Marner, and if they did you have to eventually sign them to bit contracts to. |

Well, then he probably should've had more leverage to sign him at a lower dollar if he had zero interest signing anywhere else. He's a great player, but it really is a high cap hit for 6 years. I'd have signed it and dealt with it if I had to, as you are all going through, but I wouldn't be happy about it. |

well now... maybe he should have considered some other voices...
because whomever he did listen to and Dreger didn't work out for the best did it?
do the fans know more... no they don't
do the fans know less? same answer - we don't know. |

can't wait until Dubas finally realizes that its 5pm.. and he moves Nylander for defensive help.
then blames Babcock.

this year should have 100% been a cup contending year. this team is nowhere near it. that by itself should be a fireable offense.
the move should be made towards a longer-term strategy.
if the cards are played right, 2-3 years from now when those contracts are better value because of the higher cap and player development, maybe we can be there.
then we'll have a couple cracks at it; until the big boys are due for their raises. |

the d-pairing thing is really quite funny ... from an outsider perspective.
Ceci is paid what $4M... Holl is paid 850K or thereabouts. Granted Ceci has been playing against tougher competition... but I don think its fair to say Ceci has been underwhelming and Holl has overachieved.
I have absolutely no idea as to why you wouldn't try Holl with Rielly for a period - what is there to lose? |

having 3 of the top 7 caphits in the league and a mediocre team should lead you to question if the leadership of this team has any idea of what they are doing. |
