Martin Marincin. Objectively the best, most underrated d man in the league and it's not even close. |

this is so stupid
Cordell, you are looking at Fox's icetime average for his whole season, he wasn't going to start playing 20 minutes a game from the get-go, day 1 in the NHL
He was second on the entire team in icetime last night and that will be the norm as the season rolls on

Cody Franson.
If you look at his advanced stats, he's an elite defenceman who could help out the Leafs or Coyotes. - Atomic Wedgie

HockeyBuzz Hotstove: Most underused defenseman in the NHL this season? - ToddCordellVAN
Ty Smith and Sami Niku.
Ty Smith was sent back down the the WHL for his 2nd eligible year with the club. While I am happy to not burn a year of his entry level deal, the first rounder is desperately needed in the NHL, as Tenneyson is the worst D in the league. You would think being the CHL's Defensmen of the year would help his cause, but instead the Devils chose to stunt his growth. Highest scoring WHL D man since the 1980's
Sami Niku is a similar story. With the Jets down 4 of their top 5 D from last season, you would think the reiging AHL D of the year would get the nod to play with the Jets. Instead, Bitetto/Beaulieu/Dahlstrom all get played, and look horrible. Meanwhile Niku has 12 points in 15 games, on pace for a 2nd consecutive AHL D of the year if he keeps it up again. Tho, with Morrissey potentially landing on the IR, Niku could get back with the Jets sooner than later. Only time will tell. |

How about Cale Makar and or Quinn Hughes.
Kids like this don't score at this pace historically. Dahlin put up nice numbers last year but they are going to look small vs. these kids.
Provorov is another candidate that nobody's talking about. He's having a great year after signing a big contract.
As for the opposite - how about former 65 point Ghost? He needs to be traded, I hate to say. I have been fighting that concept but it is time. |

It just goes to show how stupid GMs are and that they should totally hire Coyote's bloggers from offbeat hockey gossip sites because we're way smrtr. |

Cody Franson is not in the NHL because GMs are an old boys club of stupid dinosaurs. Lou is the worst GM in the league. Whatever is happening in NYI is just luck or goalies. Holland is another dinosaur. Some say he drastically improved the culture, swapped Lucic for Neal, and actually created some depth in the bottom 6. But those people are wrong. It's just luck or something. Once we get rid of these dinosaur GMs and focus more on analytics, guys like Cody Franson can finally shine. He's the most underrated d-men in the NHL. Gormley is 2nd. |

The kid is an absolute stud. He will win the rookie of the year and have a shot (outside) Norris |
