Matt Ross: Consistently Inconsistent

Typical panthers. Why would they trade their top PP guy? For a team that struggles we need our PP to stay at top of the league. It will take a huge hit if they trade him. Doesn’t make sense.

Only way this happens is if they can get a top pair D in a trade. Which is highly unlikely. They haven’t had a good D since their last playoff team. This team has a very good chance at being a true contender if Tallon worked the phones but it seems like defense is not a priority. Also it’s lookkng like that big contract for Bobrovsky is an albatross. He’s been horrible. Might be worst goalie all time in panthers history with the amount of money he’s being paid for the result on the ice. Just horrible. No idea why he got all those years when they drafted the future in the first round of the draft. Makes no sense but it does because it’s the Panthers. Just consistently inept for over 2 decades.

I haven't heard much about Keeper's progress so far this year. But, I remember in the offseason there were concerns about his conditioning. The kid never had a serious training routine during his offseasons, he'd just go home and eat mom's good cooking and workout some on his own. I think he's a bit of a development project, hopefully one like Weegar who now has to be considered a great find as a 7th round pick.

Hey Ballard -

I hear you on the concerns about trading Hoffman, but if it can strengthen the defense, I would be all for it.

I was very critical of the Bob contract once the deal was done. Scary stuff and rarely do these massive deals work out. Agreed with you that it was odd to sign him and then draft Knight. Maybe the idea is to try and move Bob (which will be very difficult) in a few years in Knight pans out. Still weird though...

Trocheck needs to figure some things out, too. I've been missing the stir-it-up, stick your nose in type of play that made him a favorite of mine. He's too often trying to go through three guys or he'll pull a stupid no-look drop pass that ends up quickly going the other way. Something seems off with Vinny, so far.

Great point. I also miss Jayce in the lineup. He brought that pest/annoying and physical game to the opposition.

I will miss most of this game due to some puck of my own but if its as maddening as the last 2 games that might be a good thing. Prove me wrong boys get back in that W column

Looks like yesterday's new-look forward lines are the same for the #FlaPanthers this morning in Washington.
Huberdeau - Barkov - Hoffman
Connolly - Trocheck - Malgin
Vatrano - Toninato - Dadonov
Boyle - Acciari - Sceviour

Q revamping all the lines. Hoff now up on line 1, just like the PP unit. Dads down on three, but I wouldn't be surprised if Q flips him with Malgin during the game. Malgin is another one who needs to again start chipping in on the score sheet. Overall, I think he's still playing well, but they need more from him.

I guess to get Hoff's trade value up it cant be that high. Sure he has 9 goals but most of those were in the first couple games

Sigh another 800 save percentage. There goes playoff spot. Saw pysyk on the ice for at least 2 of those goals. Bob should have had a couple as well especially paniks

That second goal allowed just can't be let in. FL was carrying the play and were all over the Caps for several minutes straight, then that poop goal is allowed by Bob. Woof. Kudos to the boys for going and getting the goal right back within a minute, but damn it, that's a really bad goal to let in. Frustrating game, once again.

And those damn Leafers are so darn lucky just waltz into Detroit with down and out goalies. Making their coach change seem brilliant. 3 wins in a row for them 3 losses in a row for us good bye slight lead

said it before and i'll say it again. you are going NOWHERE giving up 4+ goals a game. There is a reason they couldn't give away Pysyk in the off season. He is terrible. The rest of the defense is not much better. Yandle is looking like he did 2 years ago with all his giveaways. Bobrovsky can claim non support, but he has given up multiple very soft goals this season. Better go 7-2 on this homestand or could have a long season. Again, why no goal lights working at BBT?

Haven't been since opening night, but the goal light is just different now. It's down lower on top of the boards and maybe lights up the glass stanchions on either side. It just lights up red with no flashing. I think the old bubble strobe red light up on the pole is gone.
