Just seems to be a puck hog - he's good at retrieving it, but once he has the puck heading up the ice, he hangs onto it. I'm probably missing a lot of details in the plays.
- pdx2ord

EXACTLY. Laugh my ass, post game show had Saad as the player of the game for the hawks. He had 5 shots on goal and hit iron at least once. Wgaf, when he gets the puck he rarely sees who's with him because he rarely looks. It's as though he has blinders on. Zero hockey IQ. And I've been saying this since before he got traded away.

It’s clear this team moves out anyone of value on or before the deadline -

Nice try with the summer maneuvering but the core is out of gas- we know it & they know it.
One exception- 88

Great run but it’s over- let the rebuild begin

With the exception of Kane I have to agree.

May not be everything you're looking for in an interview, but StanBo recently did a two-month "state of the team" checkup with Chris Kuc and others.

Thanks I'll give it a listen. I am guessing that it's pretty much sugar coated.

If the Hawks are sellers at the deadline will Stan the one pulling the trigger or somebody else?

Public service announcement. The Athletic is having a cyber Monday special. A bit over, $20 for a one year subscription. Assume the offer ends tonight. I just noticed it and signed up.

Well worth it, particularly if you're a multi-sport follower - that's a great deal.

This team is pathetic. Complete joke on and especially off the ice

And the mope known as Jonathan Toews speaking to the media on post-game. Pretty hilarious listening to him. Talking about all the travel, the schedule, all the things every other NHL team has to deal with. Nothing about his lazy penalties, the reaching instead of actually skating, the constant falling down, the palms-up and constant complaining when he's whistled for a penalty or thrown out of the face-off circle.

Yeah, this guys is a great leader.
Sounded to me like a guy whose heart is really not in it.
And it's showing in his play on the ice and his actions as well.
They will be lucky to get to 80 points.
It's looking good for the lottery, where's that lotto ball GIF?

There is no guarantee with a lottery pick that you actually get an early pick. Could wind up with one of the last lottery picks.

Recall Highmore for this game. He had the preseason encounter with Marchand.

It is an embarrassment that Stan Bowman was unable to ice a complete roster tonight.

Because four guys are injured, but not bad enough to be on LTIR (hence cap space)?

Highlight of the game or post-game for me ... some site (might have been the Hawks' own) talking about how Kane's scoring streak was over.

I think that generally comes with a shut out.

That would be my guess but others might get a look before Sikura is up for good. I am not going to believe the reported unhappiness with his game - just be wary - sooner or later Sikura will find his place. Expansion beckons; opportunity arises somewhere.

Would the outcome have been different with a full roster? Likely not. What difference would having another underperforming, unmotivated forward make?

Hawks organization could care less as long as the SUCKERS keep buying tickets for the game and can hope to get their faces on tv. That's all that matters ! Bring back JJ for honest commentary.
- GlennL

You’re funny.

What did you find honest about JJ’s commentary? Was it the rumors he made up to generate page views or his assessment in 2011 that the charmin-y soft Hawks would never win another Cup.

Thanks no, I’ll stick with Tyler.

Agreed. I am in favour of having Highmore get more NHL time this season.
- Tyler Cameron

Honestly, all the guys they bring up are just guys. Not difference makers.

Highmore, Wedin, Sikura, just guys who really don't do anything.

I hate to say this but I've now gotten to the point where these losses don't really upset me like they used to. I guess it's a kind of acknowledgement that the Hawks aren't going anywhere this season so there's not point it getting upset about it.

I know things could turn around or at least get better but even then - The Hawks can't play with St. Louis and they can't play with Colorado and they needed Vezina level goaltending to beat Dallas. We know the problems they've had with Nashville and they haven't exactly handled Winnipeg with ease either. So - even if Toews all of a sudden turns into the 2018/19 Toews - will it make enough of a difference? I don't think so.

So ... it's the way it goes.

- EbonyRaptor

Either way they've been pretty entertaining. If you can't get brilliance a meltdown is a thing.

The talent level in the NHL is so diluted that the Hawks could play with just about any team. They certainly can't skate with the better teams since CooCoo, Seabrook, Gus and Matta can't move. But they could not suck. They have enough talent on the roster. Its not like the Islanders are vastly more talented team.

If they sat 5 guys in the box, blocked a bunch more shots and just looked to spring the offside forward on a break away they would probably do OK with the level of goaltending they have. Good enough for a 7 or 8 spot and good enough to have a chance most nights.

I'll consent that they shouldn't be a great team but they really shouldn't be this abhorrent either. They should be slightly above average.

With the Crawford news its clear that Bowman doesn't interview coaches or look at their history very carefully before hiring them.

Head coach Sheldon would be fun. Player coach Brent Seabrook would be outstanding. You think they'd get a cap discount for that?

I am ok with Nylander, he has some skills. Keep him in the line up this year and see how he develops.

But I would really like to see Kubalik get more than 12 minutes of ice time. (especially since they dressed 11 forwards). He at least the Hawks 7th best forward. Wicked shot, 200' game, sees the ice, good IQ, physical. Who ever he is playing with (and he is playing with different linemates every other shift and every other game) seems to have several noticeable (for the right reasons) shifts every night.

It is also funny how gutless the organization is. Rather than suspending Lehner for telling the team they sucked (not untrue) after the Colorado game they said he was sick.

Nylander has some definite skill and makes plays when he puts forth some effort but he's a very bad floater and that isn't getting better and that has been the knock since he was drafted. Not a lot of improvement either. Looks like an oops there.

Kubalik has some wheels, has played well and has a bomb of a shot. I'd rather see him get the time tbh.
