We need a top line winger or a solid 2c a lot more than we need Sam and we can bundle one of our D in with Sam to secure the player we need. If we want to attract the type of player we ALL want, the price will be high. It’s Sam or Mitts plus plus

Let someone else pay sam 7+ if your so sure.

Botts isnt paying him big $

Didnt last time either.

LAst nights game he was invisible

On the flip side, there isn't one player besides Eichel that can't be labeled as "streaky", and that includes Skinner and Reinhart.

Reinhart seems to play his best when the rest of the team is struggling. Like overseas. It's seemed that way forever.

You rarely if ever see Reinhart and Eichel both firing on all cylinders, despite being on the same line.

Reinhart should be on a different line IMO

Pastaboy signed in 2017, he was not Arb elligible. Not much leverage.
If you don't think Arbitration has an impact, recall back 3-1/2 months ago for Erod's case.
$2m for nothing...a 4th line C.

Sam is Arb elligible in 2020, 3 years after Pasta's signing.
That gives him real leverage.
Consider last year's RFA signings, that gives him leverage.
Nylander is a good starting point, it isn't going lower. That gives him leverage.
Sam is going to get paid

Now, let's get this out of the way before Boss misrepresents what I say, again...
I don't want to pay Sam that much, I too would want to pay him less.
But we don't live in a fantasy land, it is reality. The projection is $7.0m or more.

Feels like there's 3 options, and you really can't talk value without term:

Sam's leverage comes mostly from the fact that he can file for arb twice and become a UFA. Risky, but by far the biggest potential pay off.

JB follows the trend and only buys off a couple UFA years. Sam gets security, but the lowest contract value.

They agree on a long term deal. Have to think Sam's coming in asking 8 years @ 8.5-9m. An overpay that would make everyone cringe.

I'd be open to trading him, for sure, depending on the return.
I'd be open to re-signing him for $7m-sh as well, assuming production stays in that 65 pt range...can always trade him down the road when that contract will have value.

If he is used for a trade, the right side becomes incredibly weak...counting on Tage (ya right), maybe Erod too (SMH).

Hall would be great, but he is LW...how many LW do they need with Olo, Skins, Mojo, Vesey, Sheary...they don't.

I'd prefer to keep him and his 65 pts and ADD to that with a real 2C. Next season, Cozens plays on the right.

Vesey-Asplund-Sheary is kinda weak though but I like your top 2 if we can get a good center for this line

Comparable deal would be what Karlsson or Mark Stone got last year.

A/B+ prospect
1st rounder
decent roster player

There's no way IMO you get a potential franchise D man who couldv'e went top 2 for a rental.

- sbroads24

Anything can happen from now till he gets moved but like I said Ray will not be spending considerable time ( which he has ) trying to convince a team to give the Devils their second round pick and their second best prospect.

There is 31 teams in the league one of them will fork over a piece they considered untouchable for a shot at the cup.

I like him, but unless he was heading to UFA like Skinner was I just can't see him near that.

He's never been considered a "star"
Never broke 30 goals
Isn't flashy
No ASG's

Not that the above matters, at all, but these things are usually what gets players the giant contracts.

I just cant see someone getting top end $$ when he's never been in the top 50 in scoring

Maybe. But the Devils don't really have an option to just let him walk.

They have to take the best offer.

They will probably get a really good package of a prospect/1st/roster player.

I don't see them going that route either. I see him filing for arb or a bitter holdout.

The ups and downs of this team are dizzying - and that in there is the problem with the makeup of this team. Too many inconsistent players - when these inconsistencies align we get into a lot of trouble.

Here is my take - one of these two players need to be entertained in a trade - either Mitts or Sam. Both disappear for games on end and both are expected to be the same player - a high end 2C. Let's not dance around it - neither of these guys will be that consistently so we need to package one of the two up if the right player presents itself.

We need a better backup goaltender in the near future - Hutton can't be relied on.

Really enjoy Asplund as a player - good overall skill set and adds some much needed grit. GMTM did something right there.

Joker is currently playing as good if not better than Dahlin is. I know the latter is younger but what a trade by Botts. That trade and the Skinner deal alone should give him a few more years to right the ship.

Also - these jerseys should be a mainstay, couple of times at home a year. They look incredible on TV.

They'll spend every second up to the deadline trying to sign him. He'll say he wants to be a UFA. Agents will call asking if he'd be interested in signing with team x. He'll agree to one of those deals around 2 pm day of. The Devils will get a mid-late first, a well regarded prospect, and either a 2nd or another decent roster player.

Mark it down.

It works both ways though he isnt just sitting listening to offers and whatever comes in is what he has to pick from. He is going to be making his own calls and offers and really when are these play off teams going to have a better player to trade a prospect for ? They have to consider when the next Hall will become available and if they really want to sit and wait.

A team like colorado wont be built the same in 3 years as it is now when Bryam could be making an impact so that is decisions they will have to make is now the time to go all in or just throw a couple chips in.

Taylor Hall has less goals than Sam Reinhart.

Kyle Turris has spent the past 6 games on the bench because he's not good enough to surpass *checks notes* the entire bottom 6.

I'm telling you man. I'd be absolutely blown into next Sunday if a Hall trade had value that surpassed Karlsson and Stone.

Taylor Hall is great.

He's also not better than Stone or Kalrsson, neither of which got a player of Byram's caliber back.

Vegas didn't give up Cody Glass for Stone, despite even extending him right after the trade.

There's just a sub zero% chance they move Byram for a 28 year old straight up, let alone in a package

I second this. Put Batman and Robin back together again. Prosper. And I think Reinhart is the playmaker that would get Casey rolling.
