That's it? That's the best they got? I love Chelios claiming he scratched him for the outdoor game just because it was his hometown. Maybe its because you were old and sucked and didn't deserve to play?

- Hockey_Reverend

I have no doubt that Babcock is a douche, but I don't find scratching Chelios, Modano and Spezza to be particularly compelling.

It's Babcock's job to win the franking game. It's not hard to imagine he wanted to post the best lineup over putting in some aging franking player who wants to take a victory lap instead of working hard.

I liked how Franzen said "it could've been a cleaner in the arena and Babs would go off on them for no reason".

Clearly, Franzen is a douche, not Babs.

95% of players in the NHL are wrong and Max is right. That is why he is in the NHL right now.

To be fair, Chelios did say more than just that.

Also claims that Babs said you're only role on this team is to babysit Brett Lebda

- PatC80

Brett Lebda was atrocious! lol

It is also his job to not tear a dressing room apart.

Modano playing his 1500 game was obviously important to him. Why cause drama just to show you have power?

Spezza is in the NHL and Shore is on waivers.

Yeah.

Spezza shouldn't of been scratched that game. It was amateur hour.

Maybe he was trying to win and it wasn't about power? I thought Spezza should have played the home opener, but maybe Babs honestly felt he didn't give the team the best chance to win? Isn't that the coaches call?

Spezza has actually produced a pretty wild rate this year. Something like 2.9pts/60.

There it is. This pushes it over the top. Spezza got his feelings hurt. Babs is evil and should clearly never be employed again...

Maybe it all got lost in translation. When translating from Swedish to English? Who knows but maybe Franzen meant to say that even if it was a cleaner in the arena, Babs would go help and fold clothes and hang up dress shirts on those crappy wire hangers, Babs is a great human?

2 steps forward, 1 step back

(This is actually a case of 1 step forward, 2 steps back I think...!)

Or maybe Babcock wanted to win the game to try to improve their playoff seed.

I don't know about you, but if he was the coach of the Leafs, I'd hope he would put the needs of the team above the needs of a guy who may have played 1499 NHL games, but 1459 of them were with Dallas/Minnesota.

on the last game of the season on game 1499? C'mon man, that was a richard move to do.

Same with Spezza. Guy signs here for league min, is from here, gets his family to the game so you know the guy is going to be fired up which SHOULD give you a good shot a winning the game.

Eff Babs, glad he's gone. And for people who are whining about the players being female dogs about playing for him, eff them too. Ive worked for a person like Babs before. It sucks. And there was no way in heck I was going to contribute to that persons success in anyway as a matter of principal. Im all for being tough, and accountability and character building. But you dont need to be an arse to get that from your staff.

yup.

max's post on the start to finish of the marner thing completely put that situation in a different light.

maybe there is more than one side to some of these stories?

and just for clarity, i agree that babs is probably a douche.

but this seems more like a school yard twitter pile on from some immature salty players than a uncovering of abusive behavior. just my opinion.

You'd like to think that but sadly Babcock has done this multiple times.

He was one game away and he refused to suit him up until.....yep. That years playoffs.

So he wasn't good enough to play ONE meaningless regular season game but he was good enough for playoffs?

I hear they will use this as evidence in a court case along with hightlights of Barries play before and after Babs. It is absolutely about the players hating Babs and not about the system he was playing...

It was also the first game of the season, not like the last game and a win would determine a playoff clinch, or jump to play a different team.

not to mention thinking back to hearing Babs speak all those times about being a good person working hard etc. Makes him a bigger douche.

It was a d-bag move by Babs, I'm sure we will hear more stories about him, but Modano only played in 2 playoff games that year with Detroit.. Babs didn't rely heavily on him.
