Not all shots are created equal. The scope of a piece just digging into blocked shots but doesn't account for comparative shot quality to their opposition.
Their October success was built a fair deal on some luck, but also on the back of Tippett's slot protection system. Shots generated from outside the slot are FAR less dangerous and thus far less valuable than shots from the outside. Hence why their xGF thru many of the games was still within reason as they were still limiting chances.
As some cracks have begun to show lately, I'm not gonna suggest the discrepancy between shot share and expected goal share will continue, but it's not like examples of such success don't exist.
