There's legit risk at getting hurt as a goalie. From the skills comp to a game where there is nothing but high danger chances. If you "try" you risk injury....

Guys like OV are just being babies by skipping what amounts to a pickup game for players

Going to be interesting how many games he gets suspended for. Skaters get 1, but they also play every game. I'm not sure a goalie has dodged before, the league might make it 2 games rather than 1 for goalies, who don't play in single games all the time. At the same time, teams will have to send someone down to make space on their roster for a third goalie to cover the suspension, and don't have to with skaters, so maybe not.

Golden Knights currently aren't carrying extra skaters. By then it may be different. Even when healthy, they were going with the dressed guys only, no spare parts. I think it was salary cap mgmt.

Vegas has 23 on their roster right now. Eakin, Glass, and Marchessault have never been placed on IR, so they still take up a spot, as do the 20 they dressed last game. If one of them is still out by the time MAF is serving his suspension, they can be moved to IR to free up a spot. If those 3 are healthy, Glass, Hague, or Roy can be sent down without having to waive a player, so in this specific instance it's no big deal. I was thinking more about that whatever the NHL does will be the precedent for goalies going forward, and roster space may sometimes be a concern.

As others mentioned, 1 game suspension for a goalie is nothing but its a stupid rule to begin with. Players who have attended 5 of these or are 30 y/o or over should be able to decline the invitation.

Didn't MAF get the nod because of past reputation and work and not this season...?
