Good read, Paul!
I’d abolish the shootout. Hockey is the most team oriented sport out there. So, why would they go to individual skills to decide it? It just doesn’t make any sense. If the game isn’t settled in OT, it just counts as a tie. Simple. Score it as 3 for regulation win, two for OT win, one for OT loss, and each team gets a point for the tie. It’s fair, at least as far as I can see. Correct me me if I missed something. |

If the rule of a shootout is the puck must always be in motion toward the goal, why don't refs stop the play when the puck stops moving toward the net? |

seems the dedicated hockey fans dont like the shoot out. Id say eliminate that. Keep the 3 on 3 or 4 on 4, 2 points for a win, no points for a loss, because its still a loss, and no points for a tie, becuase its not a win, and teams playing for a tie suck. |

Or... if the keep the shootout, 1 point, no points for losing. That gives incentive to win. |

I like this idea. |

I hate the shootout, always have. Go back to what was done previously. If two teams tie, so be it. Save the shootout for All Star weekend. |

"Technically, Paul, you were right. There's no penalty carryover rule, one way or the other, except with a game misconduct. But when Bill Dineen talks, you listen. When Scotty Bowman talks, you listen. Other coaches, maybe not," I was told.
This quote above illustrates a bias I sure hope isn't prevalent in most leagues. I don't care who the damn coach is, he shouldn't be given any extra consideration than any other, or it's basically favoritism. Your boss flat out said you made the right call, so that's that. The coach was wrong, you made the right call, regardless of who he was. Or did he actually expect you to change your ruling for that particular coach? What about the next time it came up? Go with the original ruling?
So the spinorama is no longer allowed? I remember players doing that only about a decade ago for the Leafs. I remember Grabovski did it a few times. If that is no longer allowed, it must be a rule change from not too long ago. |

Man, you can't take a point away from a team on a bs coin flip 3 on 3 or 4 on 4. If they're gonna keep this crap then reg. wins getting 3 points is the only answer |
