The way they cycle the puck this year in the offensive zone compared to last year is night and day.
Multiple times that game, and games prior on this win streak, they haven't forced passes and instead kept possession and cycled all around the zone until something opens up. Even if nothing comes of it, it drains the opposing team's energy so they have to dump it out when they get it, then Tampa enters the zone and does it again.
I'd like to see offensive zone possession time game by game but I cant find it anywhere.
Anyways, well done as always! |

Kicked our asses. Good thing it’s only one game. Can see the Bolts at the top by seasons end. |

I suspect the Lightning had some extra motivation to win the game because they smelled blood in the division standings - a chance to leapfrog the Leafs. The Bolts had a chance to blow past the Leafs to within sniffing range of the division leader Bruins. This also put some distance between the Bolts and chasing teams like the Panthers.
The game looked fairly even until the floodgates broke open in the 2nd.

The Lightning molested the Canucks at every turn. There was no space to manoeuvre. Canucks did have some chances but the goalchie was equal to the task. The Canucks didn't have enough jump. |
