Would love to have Manson / Ekholm but what do you give up for them that their teams would take?

Also, Barrie is not signing a cheap new deal. Vancouver and Edmonton would back up the Brinks truck for him.

Liljgren doesn't seem to be ready but if you get Ekholm and/or Manson you don't need him. He would be a chip going the other way to get one of those defensemen.

LeBrun mentioned Anderson as a possible trade target today.

and there I thought that Lebrun and Dreger would start speculating about this year's offer sheet olympics...

but of course there are no marquee Leafs in that discussion - so boom...

and how many 1st round picks are the Leafs having to give up for Anderson?

People wouldn't like it but.....

I would put Liljegren, Bracco, Johnsson out there with other players picks....maybe even Sandin but there's a reason for that...

(Also, like the Anderson/Jenner/Savard suggestion so using the same pieces...)

Ekholm/Savard are 29 but really good and should be for a few more years....before Matthews/Marner deals are done.... Manson is young on a good deal and could be a long term Leaf.

Before this forward group starts to get chipped away by 2nd deals and Cap space we need to take a serious run at the Cup for the next 5 years.

We can keep drafting and developing going forward but to get a Cup team together now we need to lose some players that are valuable and close but not quite there. We don't have time for Sandin/Liljegren to work out the bugs that come with playing in the NHL and win a Cup at the same time. By the time they get their game worked out Matthews/Marner deals will be up again. Reilly's deal. Nylander's deal...and the list goes on.

We know what we have for forwards, we know what we need to balance the team out. We need a few KNOWN players...NOW.

Could you imagine this line up...and I would say this is definitely a team with a fu3king amazing shot at the Cup:

Hyman, Matthews, Marner
Micheyev, Taveres, Nylander
Kapanen, Jenner, Johnson
Moore, Kerfoot, Engvall

Reilly, Savard
Muzzin, Manson
Dermott, Holl

Andersen
Georgiev

Potentially losing: Johnsson, Liljegren, Sandin, Timashov, Bracco, Goat, etc....

Addition by subtraction: Barrie (cap), Ceci, Marincin, Hutchinson

Seeing how bad Anderson has played, Columbus may have to give the Leafs a 1st.

I know...sucks...BAD!

But...if you could get Savard/Jenner/Johnson for Sandin/Johnsson/Bracco/Ceci (or some poop to balance out the deal)...

You could make a Cup run for the next 5 years and probably succeed a 2 or 3 times.

I take that bet all day long.

Sandin is good, no doubt. He's going to be great...no doubt. But too young now and too soft for me, so it doesn't bug me too much...a lot but not enough.

If I was a guessing man I'd say Reilly's nagging injury is either groin related or some sort of lower abdominal pain. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a sports hernia that may have to be surgically repaired once the season is complete. Probably trying to play through it like Crosby was doing.

Glad old man Williams said no. Don't really like the fit and we have too many forwards as it is there. Not sure what Dubas was up to or thinking there.

Have to figure something will happen and soon if they are really seriously going to make a move to bolster the push to keep and hold a playoff spot let alone try and make a solid run.

Between the injuries and the state of the defence and the backup goalie, Dubas has got to get something done here.

Was thinking whichever of the ACL/MCL you can play through, I can't remember which. Would explain the pivot and turning and playing through that level of pain. Brace it, freeze it, battle through.

Any number of things but have to figure now that it is out there and all over he is gonna just be the targetted guy for teams to try and take even more advantage of now really rest or no rest.
