This seems a bit contradictory. If you want a quality young RW coming back, you'll have to do better than one of those, assuming they're the centerpieces.

My question now is, who does CGY protect at the expansion draft on D? I always thought Ras Would be a lock given hes our only young, good right handed shot. But who else? Gio? Hanafin? Valimaki? Kylington? I can’t see them exposing Gio so we may lose a good young D?

Dube and Mangi would be good center pieces for teams building. The others maybe not so much. And again I’m not sure how we protect everyone we want. I’d like to see a deal of Janko, Kylington a 2nd, 3rd and 4th (split between 2 drafts) and perhaps a decent prospect to CLB for Andersson and Savard. It would shore up our RW and top 4 D. CLB needs picks and youth after trading away most of them ‘going for it’ last year.

Pretty sure Valimaki I read somwhere that Valimaki does not need to be protected due to his age and when he was drafted.

I’d be ok not protecting Gio, he’s a great defenceman but is getting up there in age.

Why all the love for Anderson he has 1 goal and 3 assists this year. Would rather keep Sammy

I think it’s a down year. He was injured earlier and may account for the poor #’s. But it may be a good time to pry him loose from CLB. Big, gritty RW who scored lots of points last year and is an RFA in a down year could come on the cheap (both in trade value and signing value). Exactly what we need IMO.
And I didn’t say trade Bennett but we may lose him to expansion anyway.

True enough, just thought Seattle may take Mang or Bennett instead. It’s definitely a gamble, glad I don’t have to make that decision.

Depends on what you define as "quality" I guess. They're decent middle-6/bottom-9 players, but I don't think you're gonna get a high-end top-6 player in return. IMO.

they would take Andersson over Baertschi any day of the week and to say otherwise would be dumb on their part.

Pretty sure the Seattle expansion draft is after the 20-21 season so pretty hard to predict who will be around then. Not sure Seattle would draft Gio who will be entering is age 38 season then.
Given the rules of the draft it will be tough for any good team to not expose a good player or two.
Anderson has had a rough season (6 weeks with a separated shoulder and he has been out with a concussion since fighting Borowiecki on 12/14/19).
Agree he would be an excellent add for us if healthy.
