This is so clearly not a playoff team. They have been outplayed all year yet miraculously found ways to win. The luck has now dried out and we’re seeing what the jets really are - a team with an AHL defense and OK forwards with a sniper who has somehow lost his deadly shot. The improvements you would hope to see each game just don’t happen. I do like Pomo, but on top of not being very talented the jets just don’t seem to be playing an effective defensive zone system. So utterly disappointing to see what’s become of this team since last December.

defense is horrible. Even if the Jets make the playoffs it will be a first round exit.

not saying the players are horrible (the roster is actually pretty good) but the system definitely is.

This game was BORING

Nothing to get excited about, the masses were Not Entertained.

11 giveaways in the first period, 16 total game giveaways but 11 in the first period?

Helle was good, Lowry was good except for his gaffe, but no grinding, and Wpg is so predictable on the pp and everything else about their game.

I was at the game and you can see that every time the Jets changed, if Nashville wasn’t changing, they try to exploit Wpg’s often ill timed line changes. Everything about Wpg’s game including the line changes are terribly predictable.

Did I mention BORING?

Dump and chase hockey, lunch pail hockey game plan. At least Ehlers would try and gain the zone with the puck and try and make a play but the rest of the team is dump and chase. Don Cherry would be proud!

I will finish my rant with BORING

For all you fancy stats wizards, is there a stat for goals given by? I mean how many games in a row where the Jets have handed the opposition a goal? Usually by way of bad line changes or giving the puck away like Lowry did yesterday.

Nashville, Boston, Toronto (multiple), Minnesota (Wpg took a break in there with Montreal I think and didn't give them a goal), Toronto again (multiple), St Louis, etc.

This is no playoff team. Wheeler looks exhausted, patchwork defense, aside from Lowry there is virtually no hard game.

BTW, for all the ppl that say Niku is the saviour, he was the worst player on the ice yesterday. Mind you, I don't believe that he is game shape yet so he needs ice time, but Wpg defense is best described as "terrible."

Although the 4th line played not bad, I can't understand why Harkins can't play every game from here on in. The team is so bad they might as well play these players like Harkins vs has beens like Borque.

6 home losses in a row now!

Other teams change coaches like underwear so I am now getting closer to advocating a coaching change to shake it up.

this team needs a major shake up, like a coach/GM being fired or major trade !!

moving Lowry from 3rd line Center to 4th line center, inserting Niku and Harkins into the line up, changing up and improving special teams shockingly will not be enough.

what's clear though is we can not be buyers at this deadline!!! need to be sellers!!!

Wasn't at the game, but watched it on TV. So what's happened to the Jets fans? Used to be continual, or a lot of, chants - "Go Jets Go." Now it seems like they are sleeping - no excitement. Is this cause of the play, or could this chant not help? Just asking.

Agree with thoughts on Harkins, he has seemed to bring some energy when playing. I too would play him every game in.

IF we make the playoffs, Helle will have to be MVP every game. Too many high danger chances allowed by the Jets. Perreault has been a good player for the Jets but seems like his best games may be behind him. And, of course, it's not just Mathieu.

What I forsee coming is the Jets sit tight until trade deadline, sell off any assets they might have that they deem expendable for whatever they can get at that time (hopefully a few draft choices), and then make a shake-up at the draft or before.

Then they make moves for quality d-man - and/or 2nd line C if possible - sacrificing some of assets attained plus a few pieces they already have. Which ones they sacrifice is debatable. But our 1st round draft pick stays unless we get our socks knocked off with offer. That pick may be very valuable. The present is important but so is the future.

Need to get the Byfuglien situation settled!

We are not in next year mode yet, but it doesn't look good TBH. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised instead?

I agree with the posters disgruntled with Maurice and how this team is coached. The Jets have an abundance of offensively talented players but the style of game they play is one not suited to their offensive abilities. This team should be scoring 4+ goals a game but they don't and most of the season when they do score goals they seem to give up the same amount. I also don't remember the last time the Jets outshot an opponent and if it wasn't for the great play of Helly the Jets wouldn't even be close to making the playoffs. It's not just the depleted D as this was the story the last 2 seasons with the big 4 d-men we lost due to cap reasons. Unfortunately Maurice will not be fired as Chevy is too loyal and wouldn't make a move until the end of the season.

Welcome to Maurice style of coaching! He does not know how to coach skilled players. He likes his passive boxes, dump and chase, grind it out style of hockey.

A friend of mine made a clever observation in October 2018. He stated that Maurice was coaching every game like it was game 7 of the Stanley Cup final. Its time for Maurice to go!

Ross77, this team has been afraid to make bold moves. None of the stuff that both you and I want is going to happen.

Its also depressing that after 9 years of "draft & develop", this is the best d-corps that Chevelallseasonoff has been able to assemble. Its also sad that this team is waiting on Byfuglien and Little (two guys brought over from Atlanta) to come back to help turn this team around.

Don't worry with the injury to Poolman and Sbisa, Maurice may now be forced to play Niku. And, as in typical Maurice fashion, Niku will play great and someone will deem Maurice a genius for putting him in.

Agreed it is really depressing. After suffering through 5 years of mediocre or bad teams to finally have a good season and go to the SC semi finals, only for the team to implode last year and once again be a really bad team this year is utterly baffling and dissapointing.

Your point about Buff and Little (both guys from Atlanta) being the saviours is a good one and is absolutely a great point that points a big finger at Chevy

Calling the Jets forward core “OK” is an unacceptable overstatement

Good news, the Jets are not last anymore in PK. It is now Detroit.

Wpg PK - 73.28
Detroit - 73.24

Nashville is only one spot above Wpg at 74.10 and they just fired their coach.

Just trying to find a little positivity.

Also, what does it say when the two best trades that this franchise completed both came while the team was in Atlanta? Getting Wheeler, Ladd and Byfuglien all happened a year or two prior to the team relocating to Winnipeg.

I keep thinking 9 years and in that time Chevelallseasonoff has done little, outside of a forced trade to rid the team of Bogosian and Kane, he's made little moves. It also seems that he has this massive ego where he thinks he can draft all 20 positions. He trumpets "draft & development", yet has only been able to get one superstar player outside the first round (Hellebyuck). He has shown poor asset management, see Nik Petan. He keeps players until they lose value and is unable to recoup any meaningful assets for them.

I hope that one day too, I can have a job where I have to answer no questions to the media, take countless days off and promise results without ever delivering any and not have the fear of ever being fired.

The whole Buf ordeal is unreal actually in how this situation has hamstrung the team, and/or mgmt is satisfied to let the year play out with no resolution. I mean, it is saving the team 7.6 mill of salary and the fans are still coming out.

So, now with Little (injured) and Buf on hiatus, you have $12,891,666 of salary not playing, you now have 15.8% of salary out of the lineup. For that amount of money, 12 million should be able to land you some pretty good talent either on the backend, upfront or both.

The franchise also made some horrible moves in Atlanta!!! See the hossa & Kovalchuk deals, and the Tkachuk deadline trade as examples

I see it as a positive that these guys are available and have stuck around. They perform well and are worth keeping in the fold. Same for Wheeler.

Since Atlanta we have drafted and developed well including Sheifele, Connor, Morrissey, Hellebuyck and more. As expected some turn into higher end, some mid, some serviceable and some don't work out. Non-issue.

After 9 years or one year shy of a decade you do not see the issue on relying on guys that came from Atlanta?

Scheifele, Connor and Morrissey all guys drafted in the top 17. Name one superstar on this team outside of Hellebyuck drafted after #17?

This is a major issue!

There are not many "superstars" drafted outside the first round by many teams in the NHL.

Certainly there are exceptions - but not many for all of the players drafted. Gambling on 18-year-olds is a tough challenge for scouts of any team. Finding a diamond in the rough not drafted by other teams after the top guns are gone is not a given.

We traded the picks used on German Rubtsov (whom has played NHL games) and Alex Debrincat for Logan Stanley. In the first round.

"Superstar" is such a bull#^[email protected]* term.
In my mind, there are a handful of "Superstars" - McDavid, Ovechkin, Crosby, as examples. The rest are merely "stars".
Where do I draw the line ? I think I would suggest that one pays money to see a McDavid play, as opposed to the Oilers. One pays money to see the Jets play, not Schiefele, or the Lightning play as opposed to paying to see Kucherov play.
