Maybe so, maybe I was wrong on what I called him, he’s one of those guys that you hate when he’s wearing the other teams uniforms but probably would love to be wearing yours.
Yes I would like a couple like him that can play the game also.Starting with Tom Wilson. - wonthecup10
I would never love a douchenozzle like him, no matter who’s sweater he wore. |

"Tough guy negotiating"? I thought you were better than that.
Let's say the scenario played out the way you said. Then the Oilers would have gotten 6 years out of him at proper value and he could test the open market when his skills are diminishing. And in the meantime, they'd have a better chance at a cup with the extra $4 million. Or, you know, if they weren't going to contend, in the last year of his contract, they could trade him for a nice package.
People seem to be forgetting the lesson the '18 Vegas team taught us. Top heavy teams don't win. 3 players costing $7 million are better than 2 players at $10.5 million. - tazer_and_diet
Sorry, Tazer, that tough guy line came across wrong. Meant hard line negotiating. Your stance makes plenty of logical sense, but it is less and less the stance GM's seem to be taking with star RFA's. They could all be wrong, and acting like lemmings. Or they're choosing to pay the money in the young years. |

Lets take a trip down memory lane, shall we
Around the time Toews / Kane signed their contracts... (+/- a year)
Milan Lucic got 6M
Derek Stepan got 6.5M
Kesler got ~7M
Seabrook got ~7M
Bobby Ryan got 7.25M
Krejci got 7.25M
Who would you rather have, Toews/Kane
Or any combo of three above...
I think Kane has been, and is worth, every penny of 10.5M
Toews, not so much, but what can you really do
Winning pays, its a business, and yea we'd all love to find a magical formula that wins the Blackhawks cup after cup after cup, but not every team can emulate the Patriots
And let's face it, the front office probably figured that by paying Toews/Kane (the super stars on championship teams) they'd make more money giving the fanbase (false) hope that we'd see championship #4, 5, 6 in the Kane/Toews era.
They were wrong.
But they took a safer bet than trying to sell off their superstars and build a championship roster full of bridesmaids like, say, the Predators model. |

I dont understand why anyone would want to trade Kane. He will more than than likely be playing at the same level he is now for the next 6 years. He is likely to still be playing and playing as the top point producer for the hawks when he is 40. Kane in my opinion has not peaked in his game and continues to improve
Imagine what would happen if they provided him with some skilled offensive minded linemates [I dont consider Toews offensive minded]
His game does not put the wear and tear on his body that causes the drop in play
Kane should be made at a minimum an assistant captain |

Two words.... CAP SPACE.
I get that fans want to win, I want the team to win too. But the core delivered us 3 Cups, they've earned my loyalty and I can't bring myself to even think about wanting to see one of them go. I want to see Stan build a winner around these guys and watch them hoist Lord Stanley's mug at least one more time. |

With Reilly out in Toronto, what would be a fair and reasonable (for both sides) return to send them Gustafsson? |

What would be a fair price from Toronto for Maatta? Understanding that Ceci would have to be part of the package coming back for cap reasons. |

Probably a third, a second if they are desperate.

Would take Jeremy Bracco, another top 6 type forward, who will never get a chance in that role for Toronto. |

Future considerations so WTC can worry about them.

Ceci and Maatta is pretty much a lateral move. There is no upside for the Leafs. Ceci will be an UFA at the end of the season. Maatta still has a couple of years left. |

They trade lard ass yet? - Elbows15
Lener to Colorado or Carolina for ?
Crawford and gust to Toronto for?
Saad to boston Edmonton buffalo for?
Go with delia and lannkian and see what the hawks have for next year. Approach Keith about waiving is nmt clause to go a contender for chance at another cup. These moves would signal a rebuild and not a retooling on the fly.
Other names for trades:
Matta smith kk Caggulia |

Ahh, no worries. I am not (really) lamenting the loss of the bridge deal, I think the NHL is trending younger, and those guys should get paid. (They should also then take less when they're older, but I'm doubtful they see it that way). But, at some point these GMs have to say, "I'll pay you $9 million, but you're not getting $11 million. My responsibility is to build a winner and I can't do that by handing out such large contracts. You can either get paid somewhere else or be part of a Champion here." |

If you want to play that game, I'd rather have Bergeron, MacKinnon, and Stamkos (or Marchand). I love Kane, but as soon as he and Toews signed those contracts, the franchise was screwed. The Hawks are not going to win a cup while those contracts are still active.
