Lener to Colorado or Carolina for ?
Crawford and gust to Toronto for?
Saad to boston Edmonton buffalo for?
Go with delia and lannkian and see what the hawks have for next year. Approach Keith about waiving is nmt clause to go a contender for chance at another cup. These moves would signal a rebuild and not a retooling on the fly.

Backstrom's deal takes him through his age 37 season. Oshie is at $5.75M through age 38. |

So Backstrom turns 33 when the next season begins, has 9 goals so far this year, and has not scored more than 23 goals since the 2010-11 season. He gets a 5 year deal for $9.2M and we are complaining about Toews' deal?
This is how GM's get their teams in Cap trouble. |

In regards to a return from the Leaves say for a Gus or Maata, I was looking at their roster and noticed this guy: Mason Marchment.

9.2M x 5 for Nik Backstrom. And he negotiated the deal himself. No 10% for an agent.
What's Ovi worth the year after next? |

There was an article in the Athletic this morning debating Toews deal and 4 others (Karlsson, Benn, etc.) and whether they are good or bad.
Verdict - bad
Though I’m surprised that using the same lens they didn’t apply the “bad” tag to Karlsson’s deal, considering money, term and injury history.
While they deemed Toews deal bad they acknowledged the light at the end of the tunnel with three years remaining after this one and that last year he at least played close-ish to the deal. |

Wishful thinking time, could you imagine if Breadman was still playing with Kane. Breadman may be the best player in the league this year.
Since I'm doing wishful thinking , imagine this
Breadman Dainault Kane
DCAT Strome Kahun
Kubalik Toews Teo
I know time for me to wake up.

I mentioned recently that if the Hawks kept Danault they wouldn't have that 2nd round pick to draft Cat. And if they had Danault, would they have traded Schmaltz for Strome? |

He will be 36, probably wants to be a Capital for life, also wants to break Gretzky's goal scoring record. My guess is that the deal he signs will be friendly to Washington. They will let Holtby go as a FA, as they figure Samsanov is ready. Looking at the fact the Caps have most of their roster tied up long term, and their RFA's won't be getting any big raises, I think cap wise they are set up very well.

If you want to play that game, I'd rather have Bergeron, MacKinnon, and Stamkos (or Marchand). I love Kane, but as soon as he and Toews signed those contracts, the franchise was screwed. The Hawks are not going to win a cup while those contracts are still active. - tazer_and_diet
Problem was they were negotiating as a duo, you take both or none. |

Didn’t they still have 2 2nd rounders that year which they used on Kris and Kayumov?
Hard to say if Cat still would have been there...
I still like the Strome for Schmaltz deal especially if Strome develops as the team’s 2C.
Admit I don’t watch a lot of Yote hockey but Schmaltz SOG total would seem to indicate he still doesn’t take many, |

Yup, and both represented by Pat Brisson, the Scott Boras of Hockey, he controls a little over a $1 bil. in total salary of NHL players, including Tavares, Crosby, etc. etc.

They are set up well for the next couple years. Then, they'll have some dog contracts. Sound familiar? Yep. Worth it? Yep. |

My bad. The 2nd rounder from Montreal that turned into Cat came back in the Shaw deal.
Hawks sent a 2nd rounder along with Danault for Wiese and Fleuschmann.
Thanks for the correction. |

When Stamkos swallowed his balls and blinked signing for $8.5 instead of $11, Hawks were screwed it set the bar lower for years until McDavid came along. |

If I’m not mistaken, they did win a cup after these contracts were signed, but I could be wrong. |
