Just updated including a quick snippet on Toffoli. With him being from a division rival I see the asking price being higher for a team like Edmonton or Calgary than say a Pittsburgh.

Fair.

Though with the Kings entering the scorched earth phase of their rebuild, perhaps they’ll ignore divisional rivalries.

if you guys are just looking for a rental, I think Ennis would be a great fit. Wouldn't cost much, and has the offensive skills to play in your top six, but the defensive abilities to be a good PK/shutdown guy in the bottom six.

could probably be had for a 2nd or 3rd rd pick

For sure but let's say the asking price for Toffoli is a second round pick. If you're LA do you take a 2nd from Edmonton or take a fairly equivalent 2nd from say Winnipeg.

They'd make the trade with Edmonton since the pick will probably be better.

Winnipeg is miles ahead of Edmonton everywhere but at McDavid and they'll probably figure things out. Edmonton is still barely a bubble team with Toffoli.

Briefly talked with some guys from the Rangers thread and they were amenable to a Puljujarvi and a 3rd or 4th (maybe cond. on games won next year) for Georgiev. Would you guys be comfortable with something along those lines?

Further to the blog, acquire Granlund (Gagner, a pick and a D prospect) and Sheary (for Khaira and a pick) then call up Benson and run the following:

Sheary- McDavid- Kassian
Nuge- Draisaitl- Yamamoto
Benson- Granlund- Chia/Neal
Nygard- Sheahan- Archibald
Haas

Scoring would be much deeper and would set the team up well for the offseason.

That site also has multiple charts that make the argument that the Canadiens are one of the best teams in the league.

The Oilers are going to Oilers. Their goaltending is bad, their defence is bad, their wingers are bad, and judging by Saturday's game, Draisaitl has already checked out.

Oilers goaltending is hit and miss, the defence is adequate and the wingers are (admittedly) sub par.

Yet despite all this, the Oilers are only 2 points back of the mighty Flames, and “somehow” have a better goal differential.

As far as Draisaitl is concerned, one iffy game does not a season make. He’s 2nd in league scoring. That’s not by accident.

So ease off the hyperbole Hunk. It’s beneath you.

Would you rather have the Jets or Oilers goalies? Wingers? Defense is probably a wash until they figure Byfuglien out.

The Jets are a good team who have been underachieving and the Oilers are a bad team that has been overachieving. There's a very good chance the Jets figure it out and make the playoffs, not so much with the Oilers.

And as for Draisaitl, he was completely checked out of a massive game for first in the division and his point was an accident that he got because he got beat by Backlund and Gaudreau made an awful pass. Don't watch other Oilers games so that's all I have to go on.

The mighty Flames have turned things around. Who cares about what happened before Christmas?

1) Orrr... they’re simply a mediocre team playing up to their level.

2) So you’ve seen Draisaitl play twice, and decided after those two games that he’s mailed it in?

‘Kay.

3) They’re streaking right now, sure. But the points before Christmas count just as much as those after Christmas, so let’s see how the season plays out.

The points count but how a team plays in October means absolutely nothing when it matters in the spring. Nothing really matters until the All-Star break except having enough points to be relevant.

Id switch Nygard and Haas. I think Haas is the better player.
