Poile's almost seventy... He wants to win a cup. He probably doesn't have another four or five years to wait around for the team to get good again and make another run. For those reasons I don't think Poile will be willing to go into all out rebuild mode. Some of these contracts make the team semi-demolition proof anyway. I see him going more along the lines of a soft retool like the Blackhawks have tried to do in the past. Sell off all his expendable assets and try to find a couple of quick-fix solutions in the off-season... Like Duchene was supposed to be this year. I could be wrong though, I'm not going to pretend I understand DP's motivations. I guess it really depends on how secure Poile feels with his job.

He might think that, but he's wrong. There's no evidence that a soft retool would do anything. Other than the Forsberg trade, nothing he's done has made this team better. He's rewarded average players for a two month cup run, where they
obviously overachieved. This isn't the team that will get him what he wants.
The owners should start thinking about his replacement.
