they needed to get through this season, the buyout was great for this year

and if they didn't buy him out, he would have been 6.5 million cap hit next year anyway

and he would have been in the way of Fox and Tony D

- jimbro83

It still grinds my gears.

Edit: I was more interested in buying him out at the conclusion of this year.

but they wouldn't have got under the cap for this present season without a buyout

I do think Skjei's tradeable, at the draft or over the summer

I think a team will still look at his size and skating ability, his point total this year is going to be decent too, despite the contract they'll be a market

- jimbro83

And then he will become Ryan Graves 2.0

I guess so, I just thought there were other options at the time. It also enabled the signing of Panarin so I guess I can't complain.

Graves has become a monster in COL. I’m sure they’d love to take that trade back.

Tony D has become a monster as well. Would you prefer Tony D or Ryan Graves? It happens to other teams too. Tampa and Arizona both tossed Tony away.

Maybe we could do a Skjei Buch Nils swap for Graves and Compher. I look at Compher as a similar player to Fast with more skill/upside, Graves could become a staple on the left side and trading Skjei allows us to keep ADA.

Thought the same thing, but teams are getting away with players saying they’re allergic to their jerseys. If Hank retired I don’t see why we couldn’t hire him for something else?
- nyrangers9479

Make him director of European scouting if its allowed. He can shuttle between home and NY if he chooses to continue to live here. He is a rock star across the pond and he stays close to the game he loves...

Those trades happen all the time, spooner for Strome for example, just so happens we lost that one. Nothing to be upset about

ADA anyday. The past month Graves has provided almost zero offense. I think part of Graves breakout comes due to the fact that he plays on a really good team and there are guys like Makar that can move the puck for him. I think Graves will be a solid player for the Avs, but I don't see him being a franchise changer like ADA can become.

We got the 3rd leading scorer in the league. I am not trying to focus on players who aren't here like Shatty and Graves

I think there’s room for Miller but not for Nils. I think Trouba ADA Fox is the future on the right. I think the left is Lindgren Miller Hajek.

That makes me feel all tingly but I wonder if they'll be able to keep all of them. ADA, Trouba alone will be a lot of cap space. Fox is looking like he will command significant salary at some point too. That is just the right side.

Hank, Smith, and Staal's contracts will be off the books so we will have some extra room

Whenever the extension window opens for Fox next season, we need to start talking to him. We can't go into 21-22 wondering how much Fox is going to resign for.

Plus Buch, maybe Fast, maybe Strome, maybe Skjei. I am honestly not worried about the cap at all after next season. Should keep rising as well.
