Hoping it's just a tweak. Moose was going to start against the Blues anyways. But if Hart is hurt, one positive thing is we have a lengthy break coming up

Who’s the backup if Hart can’t play?

Well if that was the case, when he was the consensus #1/2 pick for a lengthy period of time why weren't the migraines ever mentioned? Sure there was the injury-prone narrative, but not a peep about migraines. Did this bypass every single GM?
- arichardson22

Fletcher needs to consult this board before the next draft to take advantage of those of us who know everything and can see into the future to boot.

Every time I bring up that I believe what Patrick has is post concussion syndrome, I'm told it's a migraine disorder that dates back to his youth. So I'm taking the word of those who are telling me this.

If he has a migraine disorder, you don't think playing NHL hockey as physical a sport as there is, with grueling schedules and travel can trigger the migraines? I mean are you kidding?

Ugh. Don’t like the idea of Elliott playing too many consecutive games. Not confident he can hold up physically

I believe when the whole migraine issue was first announced Fletcher mentioned Patrick's doctors don't believe it's concussion related or symptoms. I vaguely remember hearing or reading this. But hey, a diagnosis can change I suppose. I have no experience or professional knowledge of migraine issues so valid questions/concerns. I also vaguely remember someone mentioning Backstrom and/or Bjugstad having migraine issues earlier in their careers.

The migraine issue was pre-existing correct? If that is the case, your damn right you can question the pick.
- PLindbergh31

I don't think it was. I think some have speculated the concussions may have brought on something he may have been genetically susceptible to...from his mom if I am not mistaken.

There is plenty of cap space to call up a goalie without sending anyone down right??

So it looks like they took a risk. I suspect other GMs would have also. A lot of dopes passed on Bobby Clarke in the first round because of Type 1 diabetes. We got him in the second round instead. Our first round pick was Bob Courier. You could say that if it didn't work out at least they didn't blow a first rounder on a diabetic.

Fletcher from nhl.com:

Fletcher said of Patrick, "I do expect him to play this year. He skated again today. He's getting his heart rate up higher. I think he's feeling a bit better. It's hard to predict."

According to the general manager, Patrick has been ramping up his skating sessions, both in intensity of skating and duration. The player reports that he's making progress.
Patrick also works, with some regularity, in conjunction with Flyers' skills coach Angelo Ricci.

"Once we have certain information, if he's cleared for contact or anything like that, we obviously will let you guys know right away. I can just tell you from the on and off ice workouts he's doing, he is progressing. There certainly isn't any clear path as to which way this will go," Fletcher said.

There is still no set timetable for the 21-year-old forward to be cleared for contact in full-team practices or to play in a game -- which would likely entail a stint with the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms to get his legs and timing back before returning to play NHL games -- but things have been trending in the right direction.

Sorry, didn't see this post yet before replying...I agree 100% with you comment above. If there was something there, then it is on the GM for taking the risk. Esp with NoPa's size/frame...

I just don't know which came first...right now there is only fragmented sound bites and it is a bit chicken and egg discussion.

Even if this was preexisting, I don't think the team will ever say the screwed this up...he was a 1/2 pick all year...everyone had the same book and didn't say anything.

If these quotes are to be taken as 100% honesty by Fletcher, these are good quotes. If he ACTUALLY thinks he can come back this year then his workouts and regimens have been helping. If he does indeed come back, we can cross 3C off the trade deadline wish list, his reinsertion back into the lineup can not be understated.

Now this all comes with some time to get up to speed and to acclimate himself to the speed of the game, but in a perfect world, and if Fletcher is being 100% honest, this would be huge for us entering Feb.

Nope, doesn't count. Neither does the previous SO win in Boston because the Bruins weren't on their game for two periods.

Thanks for this. Now this is more of an update. If he's working out harder to get the heart rate up and hasn't had any symptoms, then he's progressing. Good news. I'd love it if he could say start a rehab stint in a month and then help out down the stretch. I've been eager to see Fletch's master plan come to fruition with Patrick at 3C all year. If the kid can come back and give get into game shape for the stretch it'd be a real boost.

I believe he's faking the whole thing cause he's lazy.

Of course I haven't spoken to him, or examined him, and I don't have any kind of medical knowledge. But the great thing about belief is that stuff like that doesn't matter.
