If they play this sloppy against the Bruins it won’t matter who’s in net. They picked it up as the game went on but Detroit couldn’t finish to save their lives tonight.

The only thing the Pens didn’t do well tonight is generate enough quality chances. Everything else was solid.

They kept missing the net. Murray bailed them if you ask me.

Love these videos of young little jerks who forget some guys played in an nhl where actions got reactions. Konecnys face is priceless as he picks himself up. Love to dump Galchenyuk trade for Perron, bump ZAR to the fourth and play Perron with Blueger and Tanev.

Perron looked like poop for the most part when he was a Pen.

Yeah. It was the right move to move him at that time. I believe he would fit right into what this pens teams is trying to do though. Plus he can score and plays like a man.

Matt Dumba would be a helluva pick up. Schultz/Bjgustad/2nd RP would be good enough?

Yea I've always liked him as a player. I honestly don't know what happened that he just went poof and sucked. Him and Sid had instant chemistry those first few games.

Matt Dumba probably has the highest value of any player on the team. He’s signed long term to a reasonable contract. If the wild do decide to blow it up, they’ll have quite a few teams interested

Minnesota needs to decide on a head coach first.

If the Pens decide to make a move on defense I think the following would make sense...

1) Revisit Scandella. If MTL slides more I think he could get moved again.

2) Look into Martinez. This would only make sense if the Pens saw him as an immediate replacement for Schultz. He'd either included in the deal for Martinez or in a secondary deal for parts. This would allow Marino to play the 3rd pair next year and develop at a more normal rate.

3) Vatanen. I don't know how hard NJ would try to tax the Pens for trading within the Metro.

4) Matt Borowiecki. I know he's the Sens' "A," but I'm sure they will get a lot of calls on him.

5) Greg Pateryn. With Marino likely to be Schultz' replacement he would be a solid 3rd pairing dman under a reasonable contract for one more season. This would also allow the Pens to move Schultz out.

6) Josh Manson. This would obviously be swinging for the fences and with what the Pens would need they'd likely be spending on a forward, but I'd look into him regardless.

Personally, I don't think they'll be making a move on defense unless they can obtain a replacement for Schultz and move him out.

Yeah I'd rather not push Marino down the lineup for an inferior player and force him to play 3rd pair with JJ.

Also, Pettersson isn't really struggling as much as people make him out to be. His season is pretty on par with last season.

I also haven't seen the issues with Pettersson that others point out.

As far as Martinez vs. Marino, I was thinking the two of them duke it out for 2nd pair. Regardless Martinez @ $4M >>>> Schultz @ any money although if the Pens can get an affordable 3rd pairing RD on the level of Pateryn or TVR that would be a win.

I don’t know how you get those charts, but what do Rikolas advanced stats say? He’s looked good since being called up

I think the ideal situation... well not ideal, but ideal for what the Pens brass would think would be:
Dumo-Letang
Pettersson-Marino
JJ-???

That question mark being maybe someone who plays more compliment to JJ's style, whatever that may be. Maybe someone who's a bit more stay at home, throw it up the boards/soft dumps out of the zone. I dunno, I'm not sure what type of player would compliment JJ but I think that's the better route to go (and cheaper too). Hell maybe Ruhwedel can do it.

Ideally Rikkolla would slot in on the left side, but that's unlike.y

I would also like to get a point per game player to play on the 4th line but that just doesnt make sense so ....

I dont know why the talk remains about the pens getting a defender. They absolutely will not sit any of their healthy D for an outsider unless it is a blockbuster move. They are definitely looking at wing to replace Galchenyuk for his upcoming move. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Jim make a move for a guy like Foligno. I think Sullivan would love a good skating hard hitting bottom 6 forward instead of Galchenyuk.

Wing is more important than D in my opinion. And top 6 is more important than bottom six hard hitting guy. They need someone to help replace Guentzels production.
