crazy me thought it was entirely plausible the Yotes would fall back and miss the playoffs because.. the West has much better teams and the Yotes are the furthest thing from a guarantee playoff team..

They were fine until both of their goalies got injured. Not much they can do.

Hill wasn't that bad, at least fantasy-wise. They're an average team. With their goalies they're like how the Devils were when Schneider was crushing it for us. The west has a bunch of average or better teams, so this doesn't surprise me that they're slumping.

They just have a ton of injuries at other positions too. For a team built around defense and goaltending to have major injuries at those positions is a death sentence.
BINGO!

The Detroit Red Wings have more home wins than the New Jersey Devils despite being 17 points behind them.

I doubt Yotes trade him. But if we get a top 10 pick for him it would be a blessing!

how tremendous would it be if somehow it turned into 4th overall lol. I'd actually feel bad for the Yotes. They deserve to win. Imagine picking 3rd and 4th. my goodness.

That's the first good play Wood has made this year.

If you didn't realize how important Nico is to this team, this game will explain why. The complete lack of puck possession and ability to switch from defense to offense is on display this game.

I know I'm saying this as we're winning, but there are so many players on the team that I just don't want to watch anymore. I'm starting to lean towards blowing it up rather than resigning Vats, Coleman, Palms, etc.

"this is a hard game to lose" is something this team aspires to defy at every opportunity.

but what then do you have? Coleman and Palms.. really don't want to lose them. Vats.. the D is bad now, it'll be bad with his UFA replacement. Coleman and Palms are at least clear positives on the ice, on different lines too, and in the room. It's a crapshoot what we'd get in exchange for them as far as drafting goes.

on one hand, the odds of winning the lotto have such minimal difference position to position.. so you want them to win.. on the other hand, every point in the standings and percentage of winning or losing the lotto.. MATTERS.

it's to the point where you wrestle with what score to root for.

What do we have with them? I just feel like a lot of the guys we'd need to lean on to turn this around in 2-3 years have been underwhelming at best.

Coleman is a 25 goal scorer on a 3rd line, plus provides some leadership and toughness.. without being a waste of space like some players ..
Palmieri is a 30 goal scorer that also provides that. I think those are essential type of players to have in the lineup.

I get that, but what difference does it make if we're still placing 29th in the league?

I only watched the 2nd half of the 3rd-finish.. but I couldn't help feeling Kovy would be one of our better forwards.. yea I know he couldn't hang on the Kings.

Nico, Palms, Gusev, Bratt, .. Coleman.. Zajac..?.. Kovy? Hughes?
