I was thinking more a Nylander for Spurgeon/Pateryn swap. But what the Wild really needs is a C, and I am starting to think that Nylander is better off as a RW than as a C.

Does it really matter at this point? Wild are a fringe playoff team at best, we need them to start worrying more about the rebuild than we do being a one and done playoff team... again...

I know the GM's in the league want to win and what the Blues did last year has them dreaming however just think if the Wild would have started a rebuild a few years ago instead of this same talk the past few years. Yeah I know the saying about ifs and buts were candy and nuts......but it does make you wonder

Actually, I was thinking about the future when I said they need a C, not this year to make the playoffs. The Wild are going to need a true #1 C to play with Kaprizov next year, so that is what I am looking at. So it does matter at this point, when you look at what you are getting in return on any trades. And the more I look at this roster and season, I don't thin Guerin is going to be making many, if any, trades before the deadline. I know that teams tend to overpay more at the deadline then they do, say, at the draft. And we know that BG has to open up a spot for Kaprizov, so there might be something that happens with a Zucker, Greenway or Donato type. And I hope to high heaven that BG does not trade away Foligno. He has become the heart and soul of this team.

I don't know how much more of a difference starting over 2-3 years ago would have been except that the Wild probably would have had 1 or 2 better draft slots. There hasn't been anything special until recently in the way of upcoming players. But at this point, I really don't see how complete dismantle will work. The Wild have too many players on long contracts with NTCs and are on the wrong side of 30. 2 years from now when Koivu and Staal are off the books and there are only 4 years (ugh!) left on the Parise and Suter contracts can the Wild realistically start building to be competitive.
