Isn’t the saying “team with the best player wins the trade” Zucker is clearly the best player in the trade, so at this point seems like an ok deal for Pittsburgh

The Minnesota Wild have traded forward Jason Zucker to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Alex Galchenyuk, 2020 first-round pick and defence prospect Calen Addison, according to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie.

This is a good haul for Zucker. Minnesota gets Calen Addison and a 1st RP. Galchenyuk wasn’t working for the Penguins so they are basically dumping salary.

Good luck for GALCH and ADDISON!

I've never been a huge fan of 1st round picks after pick 20, so I have no issue giving that up. Gally sucks. Addison is the tough piece to give up, but I'm not surprised that's who Guerin wanted. I doubt Addison has top 2 written on him, so you'd have Pettersson and Marino fighting for that 3 and 4 spot. Makes it hard to deploy Addison properly.

Interesting to see a GM and his former assistant iron out a trade when they both know each other's style pretty well.

if they don't sign him, minny will probably flip galchenyuk for another 1st or at very least a 2nd + prospects so the pens would have given all this up for 3.5 seasons of a 5.5 million dollar cap hit 20 goal forward if they are lucky when they could have just traded galchenyuk or rode out his contract and spent the money in free agency on whoever is available that tickles their fancy as a ufa.

Nice move Wild. Zucker was a speedy solid player but you get a top D prospect and a 1st round pick

The fact you think you could get that For Galchenyuk means you haven’t watched him play for some time

galchenyuk should be the best player in this deal but he isn't right now, but if he ever gets his game together and pulls his head out of his butt he could be an elite offensive forward in the league still. but he better hurry the hell up, he's not getting any younger and teams will eventually give up on making him a reclamation project.

teams know he's a guy who should be better and he's still young enough to turn around if they can. he's for sure still going to get a 2nd round pick maybe late 1st rounder if a contending team will take him. maybe a team that's out of the race taking him but only if he'll sign a 1 or 2 year extension for a lower cap hit which i don't think he will.

Dude, he’s playing 4 min a night in Pitt, a team destroyed by injuries, a team that rolls out Dominic Simon in the top 6, a team whose struggling mightily on the PP and he gets barely a look with the 2nd unit ... yes he’ll go for a late first youre right

I don't think you understand.

Galchenyuk is a burn out. He will sign league minimum next year, and that will be the end of his NHL career.

When has a team out of the race ever given up assets to bring in an underperforming UFA reclamation project?

Which team in contention thinks Galchenyuk is going to have a positive impact on their playoff chances and that they should give up anything to get him?

No one is trading for him. He had zero value in today's trade and was only there to even out the cash and roster spots. Maybe he figures things out by the end of the year and can get another decent contact, but there's almost no chance he turns things around fast enough that anyone is going to want him by the deadline.

I think its a fair trade. zucker was rumored to be on his way out of town all year. He is 28 and under contract for three years beyond this one.

galchenyuk would start watching games in the box once bjugstad and kahun get back into the line up. plus he was making $5M. the draft pick will not help the pens this year or next and that is what they are focusing on. as for addison, he plays the same position as letang and marino. so best case would be 3rd pairing. he is 19 years old and has some nice up side.

pens get a top six, wild get a Dman with potential and a pick. Chucky is the throw in for $. A good trade for both teams.

Wtf? Lmao Galchenyuk will get you a 4th and a prospect at max. Maybe a 3rd RP alone if you’re lucky.

Zucker is a 5 on 5 player. He will fit in well in the Penguins system. We are happy with this trade!

I watched every preseason game this season and Addisson played in them all. Even against AHL types he was overmatched. His head was spinning trying to keep up. Not saying he doesn't have a future, but more of a project than I expected which doesn't fit in the Pens timeline. I've heard the word "specialist" used when describing him so who knows....

Galchenyuk was toast in Pittsburgh. It's hard to describe how badly he played here. He's gonna get a prove it deal next year.

Dead serious. I hope GALCH works well in Minnesota though! He’s a good guy in a much needed change of scenery. Right now he’s worth a 3rd/4th RP.
