I knew this blog was coming. Tanner you are a troll! The leafs almost lost last night. Coyotes were on the second night of a back to back. with Hill in net! He's the AHL goaltender. You make excuses about why the Leafs were playing so bad. I can't wait to watch the Greatest team in the NHL miss the playoffs this year! - Gomey

Don't forget, Gardiner is an elite NHL defenseman. - MJL
True. However the greatest NHL roster in the Cap era didn't even need him. |

We do use stats. Just appropriately. Unlike you who cherry picks some rather obtuse stats in the past to make a sweeping statement.
Nylander is a very good player but you are overselling him. Same with the Leafs. Very good team but hasn’t been consistent over any period of time to prove they can do damage when needed.
You used to talk about confirmation bias a lot. You seem to be the biggest victim of that circumstance these days. - RafiDRW

After winning the Cup I bet the Caps thought "just imagine if we had that playoff stud Nylander instead of that overrated slug Kuznetsov." - gergeswillems
I don't know what they thought, but Kuznetsov is one of the most one dimensional, overrated players in the NHL. You just go by reputations, which is why all of your posts are so terrible. |

James, Who is the third liner Hall is playing with? Garland? Because Garland has 5 more goals than Hall. Do you know anything about Hockey? Who should Hall be playing with? Let me guess Hayton. His 1 Goal in 14 games proves the Yotes should rush him up, after a bad injury. And lead the Yotes to the Playoffs? Idiot! - Gomey
He is on a 45 point pace in his career year. the same amount of points Hall already has. To say nothing of play driving or peripheral stats. Connor Garland is not an elite player. On the Leafs, he's above Pierre Engvall, below Kapanen and Johnson, and Kerfoot, making him maybe their 8th best player. Third liner. |

Haven't seen you for a while MLJ, whatcha been up to? My guess is that they don't have wifi at the compound of the cult you joined, or you got arrested for a hate crime and just recently made bail. |

My posts are great. You're great at being an insecure, clueless, whiny, hypocrite. I can't help you with your low self esteem. You like being a contrarian just for the sake of being a contrarian. What you end up being is a clueless moron because you really are a clueless moron. |

My guess is you didn't get the promotion to assistant manager at McDonald's. There's no need to take out your anger on hockey buzz. It's not our fault you're a loser. |

The logical fallacy of the middle ground. Ok gramps. - James_Tanner
You provide no substance to your arguments and turn right to insults. You’re a year younger than myself, if I remember right.
It’s gotten to the point where all I can do is tell you to (frank) off because you’re too dense to have an intelligent conversation. |

Some of these "stats" you base your opinion on are questionable, to say the least.
I looked harder than I care to admit and couldn't come up with a singe website that would tell me what "net-front goals" refers to or who has the most.
So, I doubt your intell.
"On-ice shot attempts." Would that be as opposed to off-ice shot attempts? WTF?
Just dumb.
"Expected goals percentage." I expect that 100% of the goals you score is what you should be expected to get.
Just really dumb.
This guy who doesn't go to the tough areas currently, definitely didn't in the playoffs when you have to fight for every inch of ice. So, until I SEE differently, yeah, he plays scared when it matters. - Tonybere

It's when people attempt to seem reasonable by giving a vanilla answer. You can these people because they care more about seeming right than having any kind of original thoughts. |

Not really, you're just ignoring facts that don't fit your pre conceived ideas, so it's not worth even talking to you. You'll just go on being wrong, and I won't be effected either way. - James_Tanner
Your delusion can only be matched by the great Richard Cloutier. I still think you guys are the same dude. |

Okay.
Yet when one looks at Nylander’s history as a player, couldn’t an argument also be made for Rafi’s position?
I mean an 80 point pace is great and all, but if his current performance ranks him as a superstar, then how do we label players like Tatar, Stone and Perron? All have produced similarly to Nylander, and Tatar has done so with far less talented line mates. Do they receive superstar status as well? |

The only reasonable application of that fallacy here is if you see yourself as the representative of reasonable use of statistics- which you clearly do.
From the position he's arguing, you're seen as someone at the fringes of the stat community barking at the moon and making egregious claims founded on the back of an incomplete methodology. Like the extreme Catholic sects of the stats community. Whether he's right or wrong about that belief, he's stated a position in favour of the use of stats and is therefore I fail to see how he's guilty of this fallacy.
Part of the fun of the stats community is how many different methodologies there are and how different voices value the same stats differently. If it was as uniform and pure as you seem to imagine, there wouldn't be the near-constant innovation/evolution that we've seen over the past decade. |

Meh. Definitely not my finest moment, but considering who I'm arguing with I am fine with my lack of understanding of the stats.
I have the capacity to learn about them, but it won't be on account of James Tanner.
Unlike some here, I can admit when I'm wrong. |

I get it, been a lurker on the site for a few years now, finally decided to register so I could post. His delivery might not bode well with some people, but, some of his underlying numbers and data are true. Its easy to blow off the data when a lot of the filler isn't beneficial when its being presented. |

This is very creative James. Much better than your normal insults that you throw to people that you can't outwit and hand it to you on a regular basis.
