Here's to having a good next 7 months for the Sabres, if 4 decent pieces can be added would go a long way to changing there fortunes.

He said he wouldn’t fire him.

I’m saying it could be disastrous. Especially if it’s another half ass job by the Pegula’s

- sbroads24

You can't endorse inaction out of fear as that too is not a great idea.

If I'm Pegula, I'm asking Botterill in an end of season meeting how many of the UFA's and RFA's he plans on signing, and I'm asking him to name names.

He can't be replaced we be the worst team for years

Think of the draft picks then.

Except it’s a legitimate concern.

Unless they have already talked to someone about the job before they fire him.

“Hey, experienced GM candidate #1, our star player is at its wits end, you need to turn this around in 6 months. Want the job?”

No, oh ok, well I guess we will give the job to some first time GM with no experience and just expect it will work this time

This is where you need a real president of hockey. What could Kim pegula possibly add to that conversation?

I don’t think so.

Next year Botts draft picks like Mitts, Bryson, UPL, overseas FA’s like Ruostolainen and Pilut need to show some return on investment. Not all at the NHL level but we need a clearer picture on what they will be.

He also needs to make the playoffs. Period. End of story. And I think he and ownership are pretty aware of that

- sbroads24

Agreed on the bolded, but if he goes into next season relying on players like that again as his plan, it's time to send him packing. At some point, the excuses need to stop.

If Botts is told playoffs or bust next season

It's Tim Murray 2.0 this summer

So if you as the owner have a meeting him after the trade deadline, and he lacks a coherent plan that doesn't hinge on unknowns filling critical roles, you wouldn't fire him and look for a proper replacement out of fear?

Sure and a few months ago Ray Shero had apparently quite the offseason and how did that go ?
- Pegullaville

Unfortunately their high draft picks haven't worked out. They just need more patience and more high draft picks. Hischier and Hughes have been positively reinhart-esque. Trust the process. Top 10 picks can't fail. 1 and 2 overall especially

He really should be commended, except the season before he took over they finished with 78.
Current pace us 83 pts.
A-whoop-dee-friggin-doo... 5 whole points in 3 seasons...should qualify for playoffs when Jack celebrates his kid's 21st birthday, lol.

- IonSabres

Videoscout2000-

He did trade ek9 and ror , (2 top forwards) for draft picks.

That signifies a rebuild.
Jbotts has been here less than 3 seasons.
Moulson, okposo and bogo taking up 16 million the 1st 2 years.

I'd say theres a bit of a grace period?
Rome wasnt built in a day.

Just realized Curtis Lazar has 4/5/9 stat line the same as Mitts, in 5 less games.
I hope Casey matures and works hard to realize his potential.

Sure but neither of us have any idea if he does or doesn’t, so it’s moot to discuss.

The safe thing is betting on the slow but steady linear improvements to continue, and hopefully push him enough to make the moves to get us over.

I have 0 allegiance to Botterill. If they fire him, cool.

I’m not the LEAST bit excited about another Pegula “search”.

Slow but steady linear improvements sounds like a lot like waiting another 2 seasons before making the playoffs.

I don’t think it’s going to take much to get us there next season.

Holtz looks solid too. Different mocks have them flip flopped but Raymond looks pretty close to “can’t miss” to me.

This would have been the perfect offseason to make a ROR type trade
