LE isn't going anywhere. Boston was able to bury Backes, Islanders were able to bury Ladd, yet everyone thinks that LE MUST be traded. We have 2 more years to deal with his cap hit, it sucks, but it is what it is. Getting rid of futures to rid yourselves of mistakes is dumb.

I think the more important contract to get rid of is đŸ» 🧀. You could move that (with a mid pick) for an expiring contract to the right team. LA, Anaheim, NJ, someone could use him next season.

Canucks gave up their first round pick in the Miller trade. Unless two prospects take massive jumps in the summer. I wouldn't want to give up another first or other picks and prospects to get rid of him.

It's not the worst idea ever.

I wouldn't do it though.

no point in doing anything other than putting him on waivers and sending him to Utica. Get him away from that locker room and the kids. Eat his 6 mill in salary for the next 2 seasons after this and let him freeze down in NY.

so essentially the farm to take on Benning's contract mistake in LE

- Codes1087

Woo RHD is expendable for RHD Dumba
Hoglander is the key piece
Lockwood needs the opportunity
LE becomes a cheap contract with the Wild having the cap to absorb him.
Schaller is a 1yr cap dump

I wouldn’t say the farm given our depth of prospects. Pod Madden OJ Rafferty Lind MDP Rathbone are still left. That said the pieces could change.

I'd put him on waivers next season as well unless someone wants his cap hit to reach the floor. To which I wouldn't pay more than a 4th round pick to get rid of him.

Callahan type trade.

If we trade I want a hockey trade not moving picks. We need prospects to continue to develop but we can afford to make a splash only if the cap gets some relief for us.

OR

we dont trade for 25 year old Dumba, we let Woo (6 years younger) develop, and we don't lose a A-chip prospect in Hoglander and Benning learns from his mistakes in the LE signing and doesn't do it again.

Rafferty cost nothing, is 1 year younger, having an absolutely killer rookie pro season, and deserves a call up. We have shipped out too many 1st/2nd/3rd round picks in the last decade, we finally have a decent prospect cupboard, why revert back to that mentality.

Bogo waived.
Johnsson out for 8 weeks. Hutchison clears.

Jay Bo surgery probably out for season.

Some trades are going to happen soon.

Stand pat is fine. 25 isn’t very old for a D locked up for 4/6m.

Hughes is 19
Makar is 20
Weresnki is 22

25 isn't old by any means, but the impact of young defenseman has never been higher in the league.

and the issue with the above is the amount we already have committed to our D.

Myers - 6 mill (4 more)
Edler - 6 mill (1 more)
Tanev - 4.5 (plus whatever he will get if we re-sign)
Hughes - will not be cheap
Benn - 2 mill (one more)

Dumba - 6 mill (3 more)

you want to have 20 million locked up for our 4D next year in Myers/Edler/Benn/Dumba?

Columbus lost basically their 3 best players last season for free and were probably a better team this year.

Sometimes you just have to have faith in the growth of some marinated players.

I like scoring from D. Benn is gone in a year or tradeable now or later. 18mil I’m good with & Tanev is at most 5-5.5mil if we resign him. That’s my offer.

I think its going to be tougher than that though.

You have to have a big contingency for next summer, as Hughes and Petey wont come cheap, at all.

UFA's they will look to re-sign are probably:

Virtanen, Gaudette, MacEwen, Bailey (given what he has shown), Tanev, Stecher, Brisebois, Markstrom, Leivo,.

Maybe's: Fantenburg, Motte, Graovac

Gone: Schaller

that 19 million isn't very much when you should probably allow yourself, at minimum, 12 million in open space next summer to sign Quinn and Petey. (just guessing to the figure)

- Codes1087

The keys to me are Markstrom and EP40. Work on Marky first, hopefully a four year deal between $5 - $5.6MM. Go a little higher if it means being allowed to expose him in the expansion draft...gives a year to further evaluate Demko.

I believe Petey can sign offer sheets so best to lock him up early. Hughes is in the same position as Brock so at the end of he day, Canucks have a significant amount of leverage (no arb rights and no offer sheets). Ideally they lock him up long term.

The others should be fairly simple an cheap, with the exception of Virt and Tanev. Three year bridge for Jake would be best (show he can continue to improve - and not just when playing with Petey/Miller) and shoot for a home town discount with Tanev (if that does not happen, love the player but time to let him walk).

Obviously it's best to stay out of the Dumba bidding sh1t show. Especially with the $ this teams going to be spending. I really don't think JB will do anything significant at the TDL. The summer/draft may be a different story though.

Dumba really isn’t special. Such an odd target
