Barrie is actually playing well on the offensive side - one of his best games for Leafs so far.

Holl and Muzzin can't keep up with the rest of the team - keep Holl as a 7D next season, but don't renew Muzzin's contract.

Kap can play both wings and has speed to burn, can play PK. He's one of those guys you're happy to keep resigning at whatever the going rate is for a 3rd line winger.

Nylander, Kerfoot and Dermott for Doughty with 1.5 retained. Re-sign Muzzin at 5 AAV. Trade Barrie at the TDL and then use that return to acquire TJ Brodie, re-sign at 5 AAV. While we're at it, Johnsson for Sam Bennett.

Even if he was scoring more points and increasing his UFA pay day, he still wouldn't be worth re-signing. Just not the type of D the Leafs need at all, especially with Sandin and Liljegren on ELC and capable of putting up some points. Not to mention Rielly.

Can't trade Rielly on that contract. Just can't. That and he's a legit top pair D in his prime. Muzzin needs to be sheltered and can't play top line minutes anymore. I'd compromise and keep Muzzin but only if he's playing 20 min or less and 5 million or less. More than that and he can walk.

I'd rather move on from Spezza. He's not a two-way player and he's never won anything in the NHL. He's not a Recchi or Williams type veteran which is what I think they need more.

Depending on the cost, I'd look at Namestnikov as 3C. Still relatively young, can play any forward position, defensively responsible and can put up some decent points too.
