Leafs, the slumpbusters.

Seguin gets a goal after a 17 game goalless streak.

I'll compromise with you.

Nylander, Kerfoot and Dermott for Doughty with 1.5 retained. Re-sign Muzzin at 5 AAV. Trade Barrie at the TDL and then use that return to acquire TJ Brodie, re-sign at 5 AAV. While we're at it, Johnsson for Sam Bennett.

Hyman / Matthews / Marner
Bennett / Tavares / Kapanen
Engvall / UFA / Mikheyev
Cllifford (800K) / Gauthier / UFA

Rielly / Doughty
Muzzin / Brodie
Sandin / Liljegren

Andersen / Campbell

- JohnFergusonJr

Forget about doughty, it makes no sense cap wise.

Terrible waste of assets if the Leafs go after Dumba. Completely wrong type of D they need.

Can't trade Rielly on that contract. Just can't. That and he's a legit top pair D in his prime. Muzzin needs to be sheltered and can't play top line minutes anymore. I'd compromise and keep Muzzin but only if he's playing 20 min or less and 5 million or less. More than that and he can walk.

I'd rather move on from Spezza. He's not a two-way player and he's never won anything in the NHL. He's not a Recchi or Williams type veteran which is what I think they need more.

Depending on the cost, I'd look at Namestnikov as 3C. Still relatively young, can play any forward position, defensively responsible and can put up some decent points too.

- JohnFergusonJr

I think that contract is what moves the needle for LA. They get younger, cheaper.

Muzzin can play with Doughty doing a lot of the heavy-lifting for a long time. And you have Sandin looming, who may be better than Rielly. You still have Dermott who could end up being a top 4 guy too, despite a down(ish) year.

Spezza at 700K is rock solid value. He can win draws and move up in the lineup or play on the PP if you have to. He's not going to lose a step like Marleau either; he never had that step

Bandaidersen seems to be breaking down earlier each year. Hutch is a better backup for Campbell than Kask from what I’ve seen. He should clear.
- DrunkenCanuck

So did Hutchinson clear waivers or what?

Makes 100% sense. Nylander and Kerfoot make 10.5 AAV. Add Dermott (and avoid giving him a raise) and you're already over the 11 Doughty makes. Have LA retain 1.5 AAV and now you're actually saving money.

I think they said 13 shots, only 3 hit the net. I sure hope he's been going for the tips or something, otherwise that's brutal.

this... and mileage... Doughty is 30 or 31 at this point... best years are behind him.

1.5Million retained isn't enough for it to make sense.... certainly not in 2-3 years time.

no thanks... he's past his best before date

Nylander moves the needle for them because the LA Kings biggest issue is scoring. Nylander comes at a good price, a good age and his value is high right now. You can't move Rielly for Doughty because the whole point is to give Rielly somebody to play with.

Sandin hasn't proven poop yet, you can't pencil him in to replace Rielly. It took Rielly 5+ years to get to where he is now and he's way better than Sandin was at the same age. Sandin is a bottom pairing offensive D for now. Can't expect him to do more than that.

Spezza is the epitome of failure. All the talent in the world with none of the responsibility away from the offensive zone. That's not who you want the young kids to emulate. You want winners or a guy who's played like a winner. Spezza is just another "score points and (frank) the rest" player. Don't like him, probably never will.

if a deal could be worked out around Johnsson/Kerfoot + Barrie for Dumba that would be interesting...

but going into the playoffs with both a Barrie and a Dumba on the backend - with the forwards collective attention "to detail"... would make for a very very shot series.

not sure the Dubas would want to "waste" a playoff opportunity like that - at least I hope not.

Because the Leafs are giving them three NHL ready young pieces and because they need to rebuild so they can afford to retain. Why did the Leafs retain 1.5 on Kessel?

Doughty is what he use to be if he's not playing on a poop team. Look at Kovalchuk as soon as he left LA and joined a half decent team. Not even a great team, just a half decent one. It makes a huge difference.

Give Doughty a bunch of young guys to pass to, Rielly beside him and his old buddy Muzzin on the PK and he'd be rejuvenated.

Hacked twice on that rush too, and Matthews got a stick into his hands twice at the blueline with no calls.

But Tavares is too close to Heiskanen when he loses an edge and it leads to the 3-1 goal

But Dallas is so boring with their 5 man trap.
