And your solution for the leafs is to trade a guy in his early 20's for a guy who isn't 20 anymore and expect him to play 25 minutes every night.

Brilliant.

- joel878

He can play 25 a night, doesn't mean he would. Rather have a guy who can play 25 a night and use him like that only when you had to than a guy like Muzzin who gets 25 minutes a night too often and it costs the team dearly.

Better to have something and not need it than need it and not have it.

Get it?

Tavares is on the decline. He’s not getting any faster. He has to use his natural ability and iq now. He’s still great but he isn’t going to peak from this point on. They can use a guy like him because he can teach the young guys and still produce but this is Matthews team now.

I agree with you in a doughty type player, but like I said I want the next doughty when they are 23 coming into their prime years. Not a doughty coming off 8 years of bumps and bruises and an 11 million dollar contract.

- bryant

So unlike Tavares (goal scorers), guys like Doughty actually still play well into their 30s. Niedermayer, Chara, Pronger, Keith and Lidstrom all won Norris Trophies and Cups from 30-35. Elite defensemen age very well.

You will not find a 23 year old Doughty available. There's a reason why he was drafted 2nd overall and hasn't ever left LA. They got him in the only place you can find guys that good, that young and they held on to him during all their successful years.

Unless you plan on tanking again, the Leafs options are limited and that means they need to make a trade. Luckily, they have extra offensive players (Nylander + Kerfoot) they can afford to trade and still be potent upfront with Matthews, Tavares and Marner.

Also, if you make a trade for Doughty, LA would have to retain salary so he'd cost 9.5 AAV, not 11. If we had to retain on Kessel, they can retain on Doughty.

Leaf fans are on glue to want to trade Willy...
He’s a difference maker out there...

Complaining that he doesn’t defense or hit... Is complaining Elle Macpherson doesn’t do dishes...

Not gonna be easy beating teams like Boston, Tampa Bay and Washington (consecutively too by the way) without a guy like him so I guess they aren't winning a Cup either. End of discussion.

Figures lol. We'll just keep playing the Bruins until we finally beat them I guess.
Who knows, maybe it'll even be this year, although I'm sure some people will leap to assure me it won't happen.

What on Earth would give you the impression the Leafs can handle Boston, child?

Constantly spamming about Doughty. I wonder if that counts.

Boston has an older core and played more games than anybody other than St. Louis last year. Not saying the Leafs are playing amazing this year but if they get healthy and Boston is fatigued, that 7th game could go different.

I'd usually bet on Boston but a tired team can lose.

I would like to give special recognition to the Refs tonight...

Nice soft calls on the Leafs. Lots of missed hooks and holds on the Stars. Great job Zebra’s!

- Hockey_Reverend

Because playoff hockey...And the refs usually call all the stick work/Holds?...Am i right????
If the leafs do not find a way to play thru that stuff they are not going deep!

Yes I get it. For the 11 thousandth time in your history of doing this you're wrong about what would be good for the leafs, and everyone is greatful you're nothing more than a pissant troll living in your mother's basement, and have nothing to do with running the team.

And you won't ever get that.

Nylander, Kerfoot and maybe Dermott (if it takes that to retain more) for Doughty with 1.5 retained. Leafs actually save money and can replace Kerfoot and Dermott with players that make 1/3 of their salary.

Lose some offense by losing Nylander (which is fine because Matthews, Marner and Tavares still score a hell of a lot) and gain a guy who can play 25 minutes a night and does literally everything you could want from a top pair D, including score some of the points you lose by moving Nylander.

- JohnFergusonJr

LA would have to add with Doughty if they want Nylander. There is absolutely no way the leafs trade 3 younger players for one declining overpaid one. Just stop.

Doughty is not what we want. We want Brodin and Dumba.

Nylander, Kapanen to Minnesota for Dumba and Brodin. Picks and prospects added to balance deal but thats the meat of it.

Let Barrie walk this summer and bring up Sandin.

They can add by retaining more salary or adding an ELC forward.

He's not declining and he's not overpaid at 9.5 AAV. Just stuck on a bad team.

Remember how bad Kovalchuk looked in LA? See how he looks now on a decent team? Remember how Kessel looked in Toronto? Remember how he looked in Pittsburgh?

Yeah, the team you play on makes a big difference.

Doughty is 100% what they need. Proven Norris and Cup winner with experience. A true big impact, big minute, two-way RHD.

Dumba can't play defense worth a (frank). He's another Barrie who throws some big hits with a smaller body. He's another Phaneuf.

Adding more half ass measures like Dumba and Brodin just cost the Leafs assets and bring in more of the same poop they already have. Terrible way to waste the Nylander asset.

Why would you trade a 22/23/24 year olds for an 11 million player coming into the back 9 of his career.

- bryant

You would do it because you are dumb.
