They can add by retaining more salary or adding an ELC forward.

He's not declining and he's not overpaid at 9.5 AAV. Just stuck on a bad team.

Remember how bad Kovalchuk looked in LA? See how he looks now on a decent team? Remember how Kessel looked in Toronto? Remember how he looked in Pittsburgh?

Yeah, the team you play on makes a big difference.

Doughty makes 11 million, makes no sense to make up a random number like 9.5 million and argue based on that. On top of that, LA is not trying to get rid of him so there is zero reason they would retain salary in a deal. It's a nice fantasy but is not at all realistic.

100% makes sense they would retain salary if the Leafs give them enough to do so. Leafs retained 1.5 on Kessel, it's reasonable to ask LA to retain 1.5 too. It's a fair amount for both sides.

100% makes sense for LA to trade him just the same way they traded away the rest of their core players. They're a garbage team and will continue to be garbage for years to come. They need to rebuild. Nylander helps them get younger and score goals which is their big issue.

Doughty isn't a good pro - meaning that he is a bumhole.
Don't want these type of players on your team.
I'm not a big Nylander fan - but I think that wouldn't be a good trade for the Leafs.
Have to target a younger D on a team that needs (or thinks it needs) a guy like Nylander to drive their offense.
Anaheim (Lindholm), Arizona (??), Ottawa (??), Detroit (??), Columbus (Jones - but obv need to add big there) and a few other organizations come to mind.
I'd very much like Provorov but no way Flyers make that trade.

The Leafs were trying to get rid of Kessel, the Kings have no need to, Doughty still has some good years left and is part of the core going forward. You 100% just made up that number based on zero evidence and then went on to build your argument based on a made up number. Makes no sense.

Kopitar is still there and there aren't any rumours of him moving, they're trading away declining pieces but not the core yet. Doughty is a main part of the core, highly doubtful they trade him unless a team overpays. Them retaining 1.5 million for 8 years is not an overpay.

It's so frustration watching the leaf games and seeing them get called for chincy bs calls while the opposition gets away with murder. Muzzin gets called for slashing against Arizona on a play he had one hand on his stick and didn't hit the guy, but how many slashes did they get away with. Last night a couple phantom calls and Dallas gets to play 90s Devils all game. It's (frank)ig awful. Calls the rules the same for everyone.

Just cause you're a defensive team doesn't give you the rit to commit penalties. NHL need to fix this garbage.

Few thoughts from last night:

I know Andersen is coming back from injury, but he needs to be more engaged and close that five hole...

Refs suck. One play someone was hanging all over Sandin like a blanket, arms wrapped around him... no call... brutal. I didn’t realize teh playoffs started in Feb? But it is a reminder what kind of hockey you need to play thru to win in the playoffs. Can this team do that?

Our defensive awareness is brutal. People were blaming teh 2nd goal on Matthews. Why is he playing defence? Oh ya, because Barrie makes a pinch and then for some strange reason Dermott thinks ‘My partner has pinched, I think I will as well’?? Why would you pinch like that? Brutal awareness. That sort of thing seems to happen a few times a game and bites us in the but...

Props to Clifford! Got that boys going and its been forever since we’ve seen a decent fight at a leaf game...

Matthews was engaged.... this guy is the real deal. He wants to win every game and gives his best. He is our true Captain at this point imo. Love JT, but Matthews is the man!

Hyman wasn’t really, until he banged in a rebound. Mishandled the puck all night and didn’t get the puck to anyone.

On a positive note....Wings are -99 goal differential

I didn’t like the JT call, guy was going down before his 1 handed stick check went into the skates. Oh well....

thats what you took from the game?

To me it was a close game, difference was probably Bishop > Andersen
If I didnt watch the game and just looked at the score sheet and this, Id say the Leafs should win that game

http://www.naturalstattri...eason=20192020&game=20881

This is becoming a trend, Leafs give up a soft goal or two a game.

You tend to give up these ‘soft’ goals when you cant play defence, give up multiple breakaways every game, and give up turnovers like its a bodily function...

Odd man rushes beat us again, seems to be the only stat needed. 2 breakaways ( and more that he stopped ) and a tap in PP goal. 🤷🏻‍♂️

We had zero breakaways....and the good chances we had we missed the net or hit Bishop before he even had to move.

I still think we make the playoffs.

the game agasint the Habs where they got crushed in the 3rd period...it was basically the same for the Leafs this game

cf 26-6
shots 14-3
hd 9-4

That PP goal by saygun was killer, Leafs pushed hard enough to tie the game.

Leafs need Andersen to be better...
Since December 1st, Freddie Andersen has an .897 SV%. That places him 49th among goalies who have played at least 300 minutes in that span, just behind Michael Hutchinson who has an .898 SV% in the same period of time.

Keefe: "We got to regroup. We're going to stay away from the arena again tomorrow. We still got a number of guys that are battling some illnesses & pushing through it & we have a lot of hockey coming up"

This and some soft goaltending by Andersen was the killer last night.
