Campbell starts Friday and if he plays better than Freddy this weekend he starts the next game too.

No.
Unless freddy is injured.

You tend to give up these ‘soft’ goals when you cant play defence, give up multiple breakaways every game, and give up turnovers like its a bodily function...
- Hockey_Reverend

We know Andersen can be a lot better.
Its nothing new, the Leafs have been a top heavy team for a while.

It's so frustration watching the leaf games and seeing them get called for chincy bs calls while the opposition gets away with murder. Muzzin gets called for slashing against Arizona on a play he had one hand on his stick and didn't hit the guy, but how many slashes did they get away with. Last night a couple phantom calls and Dallas gets to play 90s Devils all game. It's (frank)ig awful. Calls the rules the same for everyone.

Just cause you're a defensive team doesn't give you the rit to commit penalties. NHL need to fix this garbage.

Meh.
Happens is all games.

Few thoughts from last night:

I know Andersen is coming back from injury, but he needs to be more engaged and close that five hole...

Refs suck. One play someone was hanging all over Sandin like a blanket, arms wrapped around him... no call... brutal. I didn’t realize teh playoffs started in Feb? But it is a reminder what kind of hockey you need to play thru to win in the playoffs. Can this team do that?

Our defensive awareness is brutal. People were blaming teh 2nd goal on Matthews. Why is he playing defence? Oh ya, because Barrie makes a pinch and then for some strange reason Dermott thinks ‘My partner has pinched, I think I will as well’?? Why would you pinch like that? Brutal awareness. That sort of thing seems to happen a few times a game and bites us in the but...

Props to Clifford! Got that boys going and its been forever since we’ve seen a decent fight at a leaf game...

The problem is that if the Leafs turn around and reciprocate their play in the same manner, they'll be called for it. You need to know there's a level playing field in order to adjust your style of play to accommodate the needs of the game - and there isn't.

Keefe: "The Marner call, if we were to go & pull out the video we could probably call that penalty 30 times in the game both ways, but for some reason that one was selected ... we could've been on the PP more than we were, but that's not the difference"

John Tavares on his tripping penalty:

"I, personally, didn't like the call. I just didn't like it. I can probably handle my emotions better than that, but it's a tight hockey game & I just didn't like it."

Obviously a bit of frustration from the leafs.

You didn't see that massive hole between his legs? He should get that stitched up!

The getting scored on with the first shot in all three periods says everything you need to know about the mentality, attitude, and attention to detail of this hockey team.

exactly this, I try my hardest to not complain about the reffing. Its part of the game.
But its hard to watch every game where its more about keeping the PIMs even than it is about actually calling penalties when they happen.

I dont care if mitch gets called for a weak slash as long as you call all of them

Yeah, but I think Bishop made more quality saves than Freddy did. Yes, he stopped one breakaway, and allowed a goal on a breakaway, a goal on a partial breakaway, and a goal on a broken play that just bounced unfortunately.

At the end of the day, as I said, I don't blame blame him for it, but I would like to see him stop one of those 2 - really the first one that was pretty weak.

This pretty much sums up what I posted.

its pretty incredible when you think about the Leafs record with Keefe despite the bottom of the League goaltending.

with a goalie who is helping steal games...like a lot of teams have...they could be a tough beat

draglikepull
@draglikepull
Since Sheldon Keefe became head coach, the Leafs have never had a 10 game stretch below 52% adjusted xGF%. But since the coaching change they're 25th in 5v5 SV% and 18th in overall SV%. They're a good team that, on a lot of nights, hasn't gotten goaltending.

Bad goaltending can very easily sink a team, we shouldn't brush it aside. But I'm seeing way too many Leafs fans claiming that they aren't trying hard enough or whatever when they control games and can't buy a save.

Cool, the idea the leafs are gonna switch freddy to the back up based on last night is laughable.

Happens when you’re top heavy and play a whole lotta pinching kinda game I think. It’s easy to point at the tender, but it’s not really soft goals going in...sure maybe we’d like the 1st one back....but Dallas gave up zero breaks and I can’t recall any(?) odd man rushes where we got solid chances.

We’ll see how the next 20 go, but it’s not looking the greatest...if it’s the goaler were (frank)ed I’d have to say....little late to be trying to get someone who we think will be better...unless Lehner falls to us cheap.

Game like that I look to the leaders and the big guns to make that extra push. Matthews, Marner, JT, and Willie ...none of them were poop but they just didn't get it done.

And Bishop was 1 better than Freddy.

Right now I have more confidence in Campbell than Freddie.
I think we start to see Keefe lean on Campbell a little more down the stretch

I agree but if you're going to play to outscore the other team like the Leafs then you'd better score more than 2 goals.

Lots of turnovers last night from our nifty-mitt guys (Marner in particular) ...not to make excuses for them but that (frank)ing ice was terrible.

not really anything controversial, Freddy has been pretty ordinary for a couple months.
you dont get the feeling of confidence when teams are attacking, you just feel like one is going in soon
