great blog. despite all of the poop around this organization, the sens foundation is something that they get very very right (probably because Melnyk has very little to do with it). the impact they have in the community is fantastic

To hear DeMelo's pregame interview along the boards and his comments about the community, his wife and how they enjoyed living here....further enrages that we HE or the PLAN (if there even is one) couldn't find a way to keep a player VERY similar to the one who's number just got retired.

a 3rd pick.....sometimes it's about more than hockey

hes a UFA if he wants to return, on july 1st he can, same with pageau but the moron trades DeMelo for a 3rd and will re-sign his most valuable trade piece....OTT GM as bad or worst than Muckler who cost the sens a cup....

Looks like Namestnikov is now in the cross-hairs...
https://www.tsn.ca/toront...lav-namestnikov-1.1446217

... aka "pair of General Managers who own Dorion in trade negotiations back at the well".

Place your bets on the trade return for Namestnikov:
a) 4th round pick - i.e. barely treading water from an asset perspective
b) 3rd round pick - i.e. further embarrassing the Demelo trade return
c) 5th round pick - i.e. even further embarrassing himself by not even recovering a 4th
d) Something even more embarrassing that we've yet to fathom
e) Other

Doesn't sound like him getting claimed was part of the plan.

e) he gets a third round pick only to see a repeat of the Hoffman Maneuver on Monday when Namestnikov is flipped for a larger return.

Tough not to love Maurice's account of DeMelo's debut.

Goloubef was put on waivers so that he could qualify to later join Belleville for their playoff run.

he's a capable bottom pairing dman, making 800k, put on waivers at a time when DMan are being injured and traded seemingly every hour..........if Dorion genuinely thought that he wouldn't be claimed, than he's an even bigger moron than I thought.

the only thing surprising is that it was Detroit who claimed him.......bet anything that they'll turn around and trade him for a pick, making Dorion look like an even bigger horses ass

if detroit flips him for a pick Dorion should be fired yesterday....

The Boston Bruins have acquired forward Ondrej Kase from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for David Backes, a first-round pick and defensive prospect Axel Andersson.

that trade is Kase for a prospect.......and the bruins give up a 1st for them to take Backes (with another year left on his deal at 4.5 mil)

good move for Anaheim, who's clearly starting a rebuild, and won't be near the cap next year (and not a ton of prospects they need to give ice time too).

i'd say Ottawa should make a deal like that, but melnyk would never allow it, and Backes would take ice time away from prospects who need the NHL roster spot

you must be on hard drugs, Dorion is becoming one of the worst GMs in sens history almost on par with Muckler.

Dorion has made a few big trades that look really good in hindsight, based on a poop load of luck (karlsson trade, dzingel trade).

he's also made a poop ton of really bad trades......that seem to get worse with hindsight. (Hoffman, burrows, demelo, stone, Duchene, etc).

I honestly can't think of a single trade where, at the time the trade was made, Ottawa came out on top.

You have to evaluate the trades when they happen. Hindsight is bullpoop. If you get raped in a trade but then a guy gets hurt it doesn't make it a good trade.

exactly....I wouldn't say the karlsson and dzingel trades were bad at the time they were made.....I think both seemed ok.....but in hindsight, they're both big wins for Ottawa.

there's zero chance though that Dorion could have known that Duclair was going to turn into a 20 goal guy, or that SJ pick would be lottery, or that karlsson would start sucking ............so you can't give him credit for making great trades, he just got lucky

i talk with guys who are active Sens supporters. almost every one of those fans have gone from negative to positive in their evaluations of Dorion.

look at the presence of Norris at practice this morning. The SJ pick is likely going to be a #5 overall. Demelo is an added 3rd rounder and we still have Balcers and Tierney. some of you guys are just way too impatient
