Jeremy Laura: Wings pick up Goloubef off of waivers

But yeah, I would imagine this is 100% a "extra body in advance of the trade deadline" move." Goloubef is a borderline NHL/AHL defender, basically another Brian Lashoff. Having him already on the roster means that if the Wings unload one or more defenders before the deadline they don't have to use one of their 4 post-deadline call-ups on a replacement, because Goloubef will already be on the roster.

He's 30 and been bounced back and forth between the NHL and AHL his entire career, so obviously not in the long-term plans.

Plus I'm guessing the Wings might want to avoid depleting the Griffins of talent while they're still somewhat precariously clinging to a playoff spot.

golebouf is alright, I suspect he'll be for Detroit exactly what he was in Ottawa......a serviceable bottom pairing guy, who can play games in the NHL so that younger players don't have to be rushed and can develop in the AHL/NCAA/Jr/etc

Important from the standpoint of roster numbers. Just seems to indicate a possible move, and as Sven said, they really don’t want to call up GR D men with the playoff hunt down there.

Dr visit was painful. Squeeze cuts back open to prove that it would hurt. I said words i had to apologize for. Will seem funnier next week.

He’s a warm body. That is all.

This makes me assume further that Daley will be gone sooner than later. I can see Green also, but Daley has vocalized that he doesn't want to play here, and it would seem like the right move to get him on another team before the deadline.

Cody Goloubef now has the rare distinction of playing for the '16-'17 Avs and the '19-'20 Wings, the two worst teams in the post Cap era.
