Anthony Travalgia: How the Bruins trade with the Ducks impacts the Bruins roster On Friday the Bruins sent David Backes, Axel Andersson and a 2020 first-round pick to the Anaheim Ducks for forward Ondrej Kase.

Hats off to Sweeney for moving Backes? He signed him to that contract!

Highly cost if you want my opinion. Yes he unload Backes but he still pay 25% of his contract for two years, paid a 1st round in one of the best draft of last decade and a very good prospect in Andersson.

If that trade happened for a player WORTH IT I’d be a steal, but Kase is always injured, he’s a speedy player but he probably won’t get far in playoff when hits are everywhere.

Can’t say who win that deal cause we don’t know where the draft will goes for Ducks and how Andersson will develop.

But it’s not a good trade for the B

His "injury history" includes about 3 concussions. He's missed the last couple of weeks due to a routine hit. Love the kid, but he's one hit away from retirement. Knowledgeable Ducks fans understand it was time for him to go. We'll take the 1st and RHD prospect and run. Ducks are rebuilding, so Backus is really no big deal. He's off the books after next season.

The East doesn't play as physical a game. I hope Kase flourishes with you. You'll love him.

Completely disagree. Boston frees up valuable cap space to sign Krug this offseason as well gives them flexibility for another move.
Toronto gave up a 1st just to ditch Marleau. Bos as well gives up a 1st but gets a player with a lot of upside!
Johansson was oft injured as well and was soft a 🐶 💩 too but he was one of the Bruins best players in the playoffs!

I think the Kase deal has huge upside and I like it for the all mentioned reasons in all the blogs.

Don needs to pull off another winger IMO.

Does a 2nd, conditional 3rd, and Vaak get it done for Palmeiri or Anderson?

Anderson not likely as CLS are in the playoff hunt. But he would be frickin ideal and he’s an RFA! 😍

It’s ok to disagree but you’re paying 2.6(Kase)+1.5(Backes) for two years. Just like if Kase was costing 4.1 millions. He’s still on injured list and had already 3 concussions at only 24y. Paid a 1st and good prospect to unload like what, 1 millions? Not sure about it... Probably could have trade Backes at a lower cost.

It's odd that the panel is unanimous that the deal hugely favours Bruins but you somehow think it's a bad deal.

Are you counting the rest of THIS year in that "2 years". He was already budgeted for this year, and next year 75% is off the books. They save $4.5M next year on CAP.

Being able to re-sign the key free agents they have upcoming is more important than the other returns.

Fair enough. I see your point. If Kase is a bust so be it. They still save 2 million dollars on the cap. I think that is a big if, as Kase has great opportunity to flourish in Bos.

The C prospect Bos gave up was never gonna play with the big club with all the dmen in the roster, and with Vaak, Lauzon, and Clifton waiting to play.

No team was taking Backes at "a lower cost".

That's the going rate for a $6M CAP hit - look at P. Marleau. Cost a 1st to get rid of him, and he's actually played 56 games for SJ now.

Every team is due for 1 bad blow out game a season. Bruins are still easily the best team in the league

True. Rather get it out of the way now I guess.

Congrats on the win.

Especially after that road trip. You hate to see it happen but this was as much of a scheduled loss as you’ll get. It almost felt like the team knew it and just mailed it in
